Drawer Rail Screws

I was watching New Brit Workshop video on mounting drawer slides. As usual, I learned a lot and was entertained by the excellent video.

Peter mentioned a certain type of screw that was designed just for drawer slides. It has a thick body with aggressive threads and a small head.

I’ve looked everywhere but can’t locate that type of screw.

They're called Euro Screws. There was a thread here recently where Seth was trying to locate Torx versions.

Widely available in the UK and EU, not so sure about where in the US but I'm sure [member=1619]SRSemenza[/member] or others will be able to point you in the right direction.

McFeely's is a good source for the "real" Euro screws.

One thing I never really understood is why you would use the euro screws with the tapered head for drawer slides which are typically flat.  It doesn't harm anything, but the screw doesn't sit flush.  The truss head are flat on the understand and sit flush against the slide bracket.  But maybe there are slides where the wider head becomes an issue?  I've only installed typically BB side mount slides.

The undermount slides and system these screws were designed for use the 32 mm spaced x 5mm dia holes typical found in predrilled gables. The proper screws fit the 5mm hole with no mods and also sit in the slide flush with little or no protrusion that could interfere with the slide operation.

The screw link I posted prior was for an applicable screw if drawer slide mounting was not to be dependent on using the 32 mm hole system.  Sorry for any confusion.

I’ve heard them called a few things, “Kitchen hinge screws” “Stubby’s”  “Stub screws”

They are called Euro screws. They are mostly used with European style drawer runners. If using them in a runner go with the ones from the manufacturer of your system such as these for Blum usershttps://www.woodworkerexpress.com/b...eEmuItHfDygs9-D8cuQ1H10EnwoWvdQMaAtZ0EALw_wcB If using these style of screws in another application go for the generic ones you will save a ton of money and it will not matter if their tolerances are not in line the rest of the brand’s systems.

Yes they are called Euro screws, but the confusion is there are various types of head, length, and gauge etc. Also some are stainless steel some are not. And to add to the confusion, some suppliers list them by other names.

Screwfix over here, list them as “Hinge screws” so you have to make sure you’re buying the right type.
I’ve never even thought about them before, we have lots of them, which are supplied by either a company we might of bought a kitchen from, or a supplier of cabinet furniture.
