Dust Deputy On Systainer

Ned thats a neat idea!

Maybe something where you just twist-n-lock with no tools required.

Nickao

For less than the price of 1 reusable CT bag,  you could craft a setup like yours.  Thanks for posting!

While you're working up these interchangeable waste containers, don't forget the aquarium you keep the gerbils in.

Perfect when you're planing cedar.  No muss, no fuss.

Remember to remove the gerbils during the filling operation.

:D :D :D

I would love to see Michael's idea tried. This would still allow Systainer storage and possibly boom arm usage. Already need some height for the boom so the Sonotube would not be a negative - but only beneficial in a shop environment. Sure would be harder to transport.

I get the impression that the shape of the reservoir is irrelevant, that all the important stuff happens in the DD itself. If so, why should the reservoir be any larger in diameter than the DD? The setup would be a lot more compact if the DD sat on top of a length of 8" Sonotube attached to the handle of the vac, and keep the deck of the vac clear for active Systainers. I think there may more versatile options for a tall tube like reservoir. Am I right in thinking that a smaller diameter tube/drum is more resistant to imploding?

for less than 100 you cant afford to make one.  but for our friens aross the pond.  why not make one.  use the photos for sizing.  there were plans in shop note mag as well as wood mag.  just folow them with the resizing.  what i dont like is the center extrntion of the mauufactured one's.  it does not extend far enough down to get full cyclone action.  this maybe why scott did get better than 90%.  the center extention should extend about 5% into the cyclone cone.

go test scott  i like the way you set the cyclone on the ct.

sounds nuts to me!

I just wonder if any of you people actually use these tools or just play with them as above!

If we didn't use them, we wouldn't need to not fill the dust bags so quickly. Unless....

That's it! we're all in the designer hamster bedding business ;D :D

BTW, how about some photos of your work.

Festeringtool you don't get that this is a hobby in addition to some peoples work? I have many friends who hate tools and will not touch one unless paid to do so. Those are usually the hacks.

The guys that are into the tools as a hobby do it for fun. Many that do it as their main job also do it as a hobby. I suspect it is those types of people on this forum. Obviously you are not one of them.

I would rather have my 24 year old playing around with the things in this thread than going out spending his money at the local bar.

Why does this hobby sound nuts to you? Because you do not see it making you money, fine. But is is actually fun for a lot of people. A hobby, another interest something to do other than watching the TV.

Even if it sounds nuts why don't you make a suggestion on how to make it happen instead of saying it is nuts. That's what this forum is about. Not telling someone they are nuts for trying something.

I cringe at a lot of things where people go on and on about the mft and how things can be done. When in fact I think to myself, just use the table saw. But I would not tell anyone they are nuts or it sounds stupid. Or to get a life. You get a life and quit reading these threads. These ideas that are nuts sometimes turn on a light bulb in my head , giving me an idea that I can implement in my shop, making me more money.

Do you get it?

Nickao

You know I have defended you more than once in these threads. But why are you reading or even on this forum? Just to laugh and say these guys are losers? I don't get it at all.

1) Do you learn anything here?

2) Can you teach me anything here?

3) Can you direct me to somewhere to answer a question I have?

4) Can you add to the ideas in these threads even if you do not agree with the methods?

If you can not do at least one of the above at least once in a while, why are you reading this forum?

Go ahead and keep posting your remarks that do not add to the discussion. You only make your self look like a fool who is wasting his time. I will defend your right to say whatever you want and would not want you kicked off the forum. But I definitely see where people are coming from in regards to your posts. You waste peoples time by making them read posts like that. But you do not waste my time.

I think 1-4 above should be a requirement to post in these threads. Maybe upon sign up rules such as these should be presented to the new registrant before they get to sign up. If they do not click on an agree button you can not get in. Then after so many non contributing posts a person gets tossed off the forum. If something like that were part of the forum rules at sign up I very well may agree that you are not contributing and should not get the right to be here.

Do you really want to be here with us crazy nuts that waste our time on vacuums?

Nickao

Yes of course I want to be here - it really is very amusing reading the lengths people go to with their Festools - some are  quite eccentric!

I am glad you want to be here.

Eccentric is one thing, telling someone to get a life is another. Maybe you should take that back. I think the guys on this forum have lives. Probably really nice lives that afford them to buy these nice expensive tools.

I have ranted enough guys, I apologize to everyone for getting off topic.

To get back on topic I love the idea and the implementation in a systainer. It is great to have the whole setup portable and to be able to role it around the shop or worksite. Will the cyclone fit in the plywood lined systainer? This would make tranportation a breeze.

The ClearVue will not fit in any systainer, ply lined or not, it's to big.

I didn't try it but I'll bet the DD will fit in the systainer 5 with the liner. I think it is less than 12 inches tall.

Hey Scott, this is a fantastic idea! I'm always working on-site in customer's homes, so I'm always looking for ways to more efficiently organize and transport my equipment. I had been looking at buying the Dust Deputy with the 10 gallon steel drum, but that would be ideal to be able to store the DD in the Systainer for transport, then utilize the Systainer as a chip bin. This is especially nice for me because I've consolidated about 95% of my smaller tools into empty systainers, so to be able to transport the DD in a systainer works exceedingly well for me! Did you have to reinforce the lid at all? Can you provide some more close-up shots of what you did? Thanks so much for the clever work and sharing with us!
Tom

The ClearVue is 17" x 12" x 8 1/2" and MAYBE if the MDF base was taken of it might fit in on an angle. But for the ClearVue you have to have some kind of base to strengthen the plastic. Very "iffy" to take it off. I think if you want to fit it in a # 5 the DD will work better.

nickao

Well, the Dust Deputy certainly seems to be in the lead.

Has anyone compared the Dust Deputy and the ClearVue side-by-side?

Ned

I ordered a fitting I believe will make a twist -n- lock setup very simple. It's a twist-n-loc deck access plate for a boat. It is water tight using o rings. I will attach it to the bottom of the cyclone and install the ring section into the top of the systainer. Then just twist the unit on or off. I will let you know how it works.

The one in the picture is not the exact one I ordered, but it is close.

Nickao

I think they both work well.  I only bought the clear one so my kids could see the dust go through it. I do think the DD looks more durable to me.
