So, I spent a good amount of time attempting to make my own MFT style top using the popular Woodrave jig coupled with pegboard. While the result was pretty accurate, after completing the cut phase of a project I have come to find that it is out .5mm over 36" which is a little too inaccurate, and compounds when using the table w/parf dogs to square ply and to rout dados/rabbets. Not sure why, could be the pegboard was not as accurate as necessary. I am a beginner, so probably more likely I messed it up.

Regardless, I am considering the fastcap Paulk bench because I don't really want to spend any more time making a bench, and I am beginning to doubt my ability to create something dead accurate (or at least much closer than I got). I am wondering if anyone has any experience w/the Fastcap version of the Paulk worktop, particularly in regard to the grid of holes? Is it accurate enough to use w/Parf dogs to get near dead accurate cuts? I assume because they are CNC machined they are as accurate as one could expect, but I thought I would attempt to find out before I commit. I live in Seattle and can drive up there to pick one up, so the shipping cost is not an issue.

Thanks for the advice!

If you have the space I'd keep the one you made.  You might not want to use it with dogs for crosscuts but it doesn't sound to me like it is too far off.  Half a millimeter over 36 inches is pretty good for anything made of wood.

My Paulk style workbench was made using the Woodrave jig and pegboard and I was pleasantly surprised that squaring jigs are as accurate as any of my squares.  I use a Paulk style crosscut jig that does not use the holes in the top.  Or I just draw a line and use a track.  The holes are very useful to put a clamp into to hold things.

I agree it's pretty accurate but I have noticed the error compounds especially when making multiple cuts to square a piece of material and then utilizing the system to cut a rabbet or dado, if that makes sense. I'm not going to get rid of it, I am just wondering if the fastcap product will offer a higher degree of accuracy. I know they have had a hard time keeping them in stock so someone has got to have one of these around here!

FWIW, bought one of the Fastcap Paulk Work Bench kits with the hinged, fold up plywood legs.  I have been very impressed with how stable it is.  I expected it to rack or move around some at least, but it is rock solid.

Can not speak to the accuracy of the holes, yet.
