Festool Mini vac + Domino

Hi,

I recently acquired a Domino Joiner. Hearing how good the Festool dust extraction was, I ordered a vac to extract from it. I'd read all over the place that the system was, well, a system and worked seemlessly together. That's why I bought a F vac for my F tool!

Imagine my surprise when I came to connect the vac hose (⌀22mm) to the Domino and found that the rubber connector is too narrow to slip onto the port!

Question 1 - What's going on? This is a big surprise to me and is not at all how I'd understood things worked in the world of Festool.

Question 2 - How do I fix it? Do I need to remove material from the tapered rubber connector attached to the hose? Purchase a step adaptor? Purchase a new end fitting for the hose?

Thanks!

Interesting – my mind is whirling; not that that takes much I’ll grant you.  Raises, for me, additional thoughts.  Any instructions with it?  What is the precise model / type, serial number, wattage?  What size bag does it use?  Does the seller have any old Festool / Festo tools that could be used with it?  Perhaps there are some Festool historians out there who could shed some light on it.
Or, is it a ‘modern’ Mini, with the incorrect hose??  If it is an old vacuum (just a thought) might it be easier to get a 27mm hose, and adapt the hose (if necessary) to the vacuum.
Alternately, you might be able to sell the vac to a Festool geek (as a kind of retro antique) and then – buy a Midi out of the proceeds.  I bet there’s someone out there who would bite.
Good luck.

I think dance is just measuring the hose from a different spot than what Festool measures it from and it is the 27mm hose.  Just shove the hose over the Domino's port.  The rubber hose end will flex.

[embarassed]  Hang on a sec.  Sorry dance.  You wrote in your post that “I ordered a vac...”  That implies you have bought a new Festool vac.  That being the case, you have either been supplied with an incorrect hose, or maybe – just maybe – the hose end is just a little tight being brand new?? Just a thought.
Look forward to your feedback.

Hi dance, it's a rare problem you have here. First you must understand that the 22 mm hose is such a rarerity that probably nobody here on this board has ever seen one. Me neither, and I've had a number of older/used Ctl Mini's through my hand by now, and I have never seen one with a 22 mm hose. I only know of models that come with the 27 mm hose.

Just to make sure that we're talking about the right hose, I've measured the size of my 27 mm hose. The inside of the black connector is 24 mm wide and the outside of the green hose is 34 mm. No idea why they call it the 27 mm hose. dance, could you measure your hose to see if you really have the smaller 22 mm hose?

As I said, my experience with the 22 mm hose is absolute zero, but I've read somewhere it has the same connector size as the 27 mm hose, but I'm not sure if that's really the case.

If you really have a CTL Mini with a 22 mm hose I'd suggest you return it asap as it's a totally outdated model. I mean, the vac itself is not, but the hose sure is, and you really should get one with the proper 27 mm hose. For sanding, the 27 mm hose works just fine, but if you use tools that produce bigger chips, like the Domino, other routers or a circular saw, then even the 27 mm hose isn't ideal anymore, let alone the 22 mm one, which would be really insufficient.

If you can't return the vac anymore, maybe you can work with your dealer or with Festool headquarters to swap your 22 mm hose for a 27 mm hose. In the worst case, when you hit a blind wall, you can always buy the 27 mm hose yourself. But that costs a bit.

Hi Ken.  Your post appeared I guess while I was composing my reply in Word.  You're spot on I reckon.
Richard.

Richard,

It seems to be a common issue with the brand new hoses from what I've read in older posts.  Sometimes the oval ports on the older tools really confused people.  Those rubber hose ends stretch and "break-in" over time.

Just read your reply Alex.  I was going to measure my hose, but it’s a few miles away at the moment.  You measured the inside of the black connector – I’m wondering what the outside diameter of the connector is?  I'm wondering if that's the elusive 27mm.
Richard.

Ken.  Exactly my experience.  For example, I was using my DX-93 the other day (rarely use the DX, but very handy to have when needed) and was reminded of how ‘firmly’ you have to slide the connector into position.

Alex.  Worth a bet isn’t it?  I might measure later in the week – just out of curiosity.
