A little while ago someone mentioned that Festool Europe is selling a radio for around $200. (see picture below)
Today, I got a flyer from our local "we sell everything" store and they are having that exact looking radio , without the festool logos of course, on sale for $39.00 .

I could be wrong, but it really looks the same!

This radio is sold under dosens of names. It's all the same radio.

There are two versions, the old one and the new one, the new one has an added MP3 player input port. I have seen the old version here for as cheap as 39 euro and the new one for 59. The Festool one is the new type with the MP3 input.

But this makes you realise where a lot of Festool's 'quality' price tag comes from ...... thin air.

Btw, the radio has a pretty decent sound, even if it's mono. A contractor with whom I worked with at my grandfather's house had one.

There is no way I'd ever pay $200 for that, other work site radios at least allow batteries to be charged and usually offer additional power outlets on them.  Makes you wonder what they're thinking with that price point.  It almost looks like something that should be given away.  They claim they can't come up with a suitable square drive bit and this is a radio that's up to their standards???  (and by standards I don't mean price  [tongue] )

Interesting.  Has your local we sell everything store got a Toronto branch?

london drugs...  It's not on their website yet.

doesn't say anything about MP/3

Holy wooden nickles!! $200 for that?!?!? [attachimg=#]

Well, the radio does have that special green...and the base legs look to be 20mm in diameter, so it fits right in with the rest of the system  [big grin].

I own the Bosch radio that has the outlets, runs on a batery, charges a batery.

It is the biggest pile of junk job site radio I have ever owned.

The sound is good, reception is aweful (especially when charging a batery), it is just not worth the money I paid for it.  Which was around a 100 bucks on sale.

I want to get the Makita one, it is small, sounds good, and will run on my older 12v nimh battery's.

Only $200?!!  I gotta have one!  Uncle Bob, when are you gonna be stocking these?  [eek]

I've got mixed feelings about my Bosch, especially now that Bosch has went the NiMH route. I replaced the stock antenna with a 1/4 wave piece of wire a while back, and it is marginally better. I generally use it for with a CD chocked with mp3s. It is pretty good in that regard, but the random play is anything but random.

Thats like the Festool Autoloader Screwdriver that Canadian Tire sells for 20 bucks....lllllaaaammmmeeee.

Don't companies think that rebadging this crap hurts their reputation?

i agree with inner10. it cant be good for their reputation.
i want designed in germany and made in germany.
leave the chinese crap alone!

I have the makita radio, superb sound, small, rugged, mp3 port & runs off any makita battery.  Does not charge the battery's though.  Couldn't be happier with it.  It costs around 100 GBP bur i got it for free (i think i spend too much money on tools  [crying]).

The Festool one doesn't look a patch on the makita.

Woodguy.

The Makita one is the best by miles I know loads of people who have them on site....one day I might get around to buying myself one  [smile]

De DeWalt one isn't bad either. Loads of people here have it and I can tell it's a joy to listen to while on the job.

I don't understand why this radio sells for 39-59 bucks and then why festool would jack the price up?  Thats unreal if you ask me..  I could see myself paying $75 max for this radio that has Festools stamp on it.  If it has extra features I might be willing to pay more.

We talked about this radio before and the reviews on it were not that great.

If memory serves Festool isn't selling the radio at all, they're giving it away free with purchase of a tool (I think the Kapex). I believe it is Ebay sellers buyers that are jacking up the price.

So, if bidding takes the price up to $200 on eBay, no complaints are in order...free market at its best for some lucky seller(s) out there.  [wink]

I like the Makita radio. Its small, sounds great, and it has a protective compartment for mp3 players. I just wish that the Makita was also a battery charger like the deWalt.
