Correct, it is the requirement and responsibility for Festool to collect sales tax for products shipped to states where we have a company employee or representative living. In legal terms, it's called a nexus.
Regarding dealers, that's between the customer, the dealer, and the government. I don't want to get into a conversation about sales tax, but customers are supposed to report on their federal income tax any purchases that were made where they did not pay applicable sales tax, such as online purchases. I'm not sure how honest people are about that, but I suspect most conveniently ignore that requirement. It only hurts your local economy and government not to pay sales tax. I suspect sooner or later legislation will be passed where it's required that all online sales are required to collect applicable state sales tax and the dealer remit that to the appropriate state(s).
That's all that I'll say about it and let's not turn this into a political conversation, which is against our forum rules.
