Hello,

For those that can compare festool router bits - how would you compare them with CMT, or Freud, doesn't look like they are cheaper, for the reason?

Thank you

Anatoliy

Anatoliy, Festool router bits are some of the highest quality bits available. I'd say they are better than the brands you listed. However, there are other brands that I've found to as good as Festool's bits for less money. I find Whiteside and Eagle America bits to be some the best in terms of value.

Thanks, Bruce, as always appreciate the response.

Lee Valley makes some great bits.  I've found them to be superior to the Freud offerings.  I haven't used the Festool bits for long enough to make a comparison.  I usually use 1/2' shank.

Hi Anatoliy,

I have used a zillion different router bits over the years, some good, some bad.  The Festool bits are the best I have ever used.  I have never broken one nor have I ever resharpened one and I do a lot of full depth DT grooving and edge profiling in very hard woods.  From my experience the qualities that matter are the grade of carbide, the fineness of polish from the factory, concentricity and balance.  A really great router bit has to have all four.  An out of balance bit, or one that is not concentric will leave a chatter edge no matter how well it was machined other wise.  My guess is there are a number of good router bit makers extant but given my experience with Festool bits I don't have any reason to try others.  Hope this helps.
