For the car guys...

Question then would be... if we are ever so lucky, would you rather a P1, or the original mack daddy, the F1?

Make you a deal -- If I ever win the lottery you get a vehicle of your choice if you'd return the favor if you win it big.  Deal?  ;)

(for those really lazy and have not clicked the Jalopnik link, here's the video... lol)

As impressive as a P1 is... being a Porsche guy myself, this video show how incredible the 918 is.  LOVE that car... very excited to watch the Code Racing team this year...

enjoy, (it is long but so, so awesome!)

That is awesome! I was so impressed that I ran down to the local Porsche dealer this morning to plunk down my $845,000 (base price) for one, only to find out the entire production run is sold out.  [sad]

The Porsche 918 Spyder lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in an amazing 6:57. Still a record I believe.

Here's a video of a Shelby GT500 doing the same lap in 7:38. The 918 obviously has far more sophisticated engineering for the track.

There's a lot more tire squealing with the Mustang as it is muscled through the curves, but still not bad for a "cheap" car.  [smile]

It is funny.  The specs on that car don't seem like reality.  People see 800+ HP and handles like a bullet train yet has the potential to get 70+ MPG with the Hybrid motors.  If I had 1 Mill, I would absolutely pick this car up.  I have driven the 2014 GT3 and fell in love.  My 91 is looking soggy these days yet I still love my mistress :D

I am waiting for the RS to be out.  My father in law is the GM for Porsche in our area, so a backstage pass helps on getting in that car.  If you haven't looked at videos of the GT3 (still achievable at 140K!) do so, you will have a smile on your face all day (and night) long.

Well, I just bought a GT500 (two weeks ago) and that's doing a pretty good job on my smile.  [smile]

I've been a member of the FOG for almost six years now, and I know well how hanging around here gives me ideas that are often harmful to my bank account.

BUT, this thread has been the costliest by far.  (Thanks, Phil) [big grin]

You pulled the trigger!!  Congrats on the new ride John!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Pictures?? YouTube???  I want to hear that engine!

Let me know if you're ever up for a High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) Track Day!  I drive with National Auto Sport Association (NASA), and I believe NASA SoCal frequents Willow Springs and Buttonwillow, as well as the occasional Laguna Seca.  My home course for NASA NorCal is of course Sonoma Raceway (previously Infineon).

Check out more info here -- http://www.nasaproracing.com/aboutnasa/regions.html

Again uber congratulations!  Do please have fun and drive safe  :)

Thanks, Phil. To tell the truth, the car still scares the heck out of me. I haven't driven a manual shift in over twenty years, and one that breaks traction so easily is taking a lot of getting used to.

These cars are programmed at the factory so that the supercharger is turned off until the car is driven a continuous 5 miles. I guess for the protection of unwary transport drivers and lot boys.

Mine had 5.5 miles on it when it arrived, the supercharger was not functioning yet, but it still seemed to have quite a bit of power. I was not ready for what happened at 11 miles, stepped hard on the throttle and almost lost control.

This car was hard to find, it took two months of searching dealer inventories nationwide to locate the one I bought. I wanted a convertible in Sterling Gray Metallic with black stripes, and they only made 67 of those (the 2014 is already out of production and there will be no more of these cars made). A dealer here in Southern California did happen to have the car I wanted but would not budge from $10,000 OVER STICKER!

I finally found one in the wheat fields of Imperial, Nebraska (pop. 2100) for MSRP and had it shipped to Los Angeles. The folks at Imperial Country Ford were great to work with, far more "down home" than most dealers out here.

Beautiful car, John.  And there's a seat for Ann in it as well!

Thanks, Neil. She's had one ride and won't get back in it until I learn to drive it better.  [smile]

Come on out and I'll show you what she means.  [big grin]

Seems the folks at HPI Racing have been busy!  Check out this miniature scale recreation of Ken Block's Gymkhana SIX!

and of course, the original for comparison  [laughing]

Festool Trivia -- Did you guys know Granat was developed by Festool Automotive Systems for Porsche?  Porsche uses low VOC paints which dries harder, thus requiring a much more durable and clog-resistant abrasive.

Since we're on the topic of VW's (heehee), of course have to include the biggest baddest VW of all...

Happy 2014 ya'll!!!  Let's kick the new year off by gettin down n dirty with recaps from Rally Estonia 2013
