For the car guys...

The answer always is...

C7 Corvette review, alongside a Porsche 991, 911 (really Porsche? how about 919?) Carrera S

Well with the Corvette costing about the same as a Porce 911 here its a no-brainer - 911 Carrera 4S all the way.

And as blasphemous as it might sound I much prefer the 911 4S over even a Ferrari 430.

Especially here up north having 4wd is essential with sand roads in the summer and snow in the winter.

(And sadly no, I don't own any of these cars, but luckily know people who do and let me have a go on track days every now and then ;-)

Since I'm doing hoopties today...

"It's always more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow."

Watch this unlikely hero (the car... the driver here is a God) hustle around the Nurburgring in... yup... under 10 minutes.

Classic!  Love the hand wave as he passes the mini van 9 minutes in.  What amazes me is how relaxed he looks whle driving at breakneck speed in this beater.  Damn that looks fun.

Formula One vs Road Cars

In February 1991, McLaren/Honda carried a test at the Estoril track. The race, recorded for British TV, had a pretty unique line-up: Ayrton Senna driving his F1 MP4/5B; Allan McNish driving a Porsche 911 Turbo and Gareth Rees behind the wheel of a Honda Concert 1.6.

The Concert was lined up first on the grid, with the Porsche and F1 cars behind. Senna gave McNish a headstart of over a minute and started 50 seconds behind Rees - but that didn’t prevent him from finishing ahead of both of them in just one lap!

The times were:

1) Ayrton Senna 1:14:00

2) Alan McNish 2:08:00

3) Gareth Rees 2:28:00

Heya welcome to the automotive thread Roy!  There's a little car guy in all of us, so this is a nice lil venue for us to light up some tires and appreciate the mechanical symphony that is the automobile.

Here's one more piece of trivia that you may or may not know -- The Granat family of Festool abrasives was initially developed for Porsche, as part of Festool Automotive Systems, as a solution for Porsche's low VOC (super hard) paint, which was extremely harsh on sand paper.  Seeing the improved durability and clog-resistant properties, Granat eventually made its way over to Festool's woodworking catalog, which is what we here in Northern America are more familiar with now :)

Alright ya'll.  Time for some serious business here.

Just kidding -- I can't say that with a straight face...  [big grin]

But on the real, here's Festool Automotive Systems for Headlight Restoration using one of my favorite sander/polishers, the one and only, RO 90!

All items as listed in the video are in stock!  The MPA's can also be used on the body for paint polishing, MPA5000 will get you a real nice shine for light colors, and I even have MPA11000 to get that mirror gloss finish on dark colored vehicles.

As noted in one of the previous videos on auto paint polish, an advantage for beginners in using a Rotex RO sander/polisher is precisely in the oscillation of the pad in Rotex mode -- helping in dissipating heat.

Annnnnd to make up for all the last couple of days with no updates... here's a bombshell of goodies for the weekend!

For us virtual guys, "Kaz", the grand visionary behind Gran Turismo

This film is about drive. It's about the passion and creative drive of Kazunori Yamauchi, the architect behind Gran Turismo's birth and breath-taking fifteen-year evolution. This film will trace his relentless willingness to challenge himself, to hold none of his past achievements sacred, and push beyond the virtual divide in his pursuit of perfection. Through the support of PlayStation, Kaz's journey has forever changed the gaming and automotive landscape and in doing so, has redefined how we perceive the relationship between art, entertainment and culture.

And, a little stroll down memory lane
