Got my OF2200 Today

Pretty happy,

I ordered a new OF 2200 from Ultimate Tools in Vancouver yesterday, it showed up on Vancouver Island less than 24 hours later

I got it home tonight and installed a really large round over bit ..  Too large for my OF-1400 .  I love the OF-1400 but find it limited for the size of bits it can take. 

Anyway..  I fired it up and took a test run on some Maple ..  Its exactly as I suspected,  no shortage of power at all ..  I like the weight of the router when using it but dislike the same when carrying it around ..  its a beast of a machine ..  The mass makes handling a big bit seem safer, but I would not take the OF 2200 jogging with me ..

Having said that, I have to say, its probably the best designed router I've ever used, and I (like many)  have a pile of routers..  Its like they thought of everything ..  The only flaw I can find is that when you stand the router on its head, if you plunge, the dust tube hits the bench and stops the motion..    And its pretty fussy to complain about that, so I won't .. 

Kudo's to Festool ..  Once I get used to the weight and size, I think its going to be my favourite router.

Good observation about the dust collection tube.  That would bother me, as I like to set bit depth with the router inverted.  It's not a deal-breaker though.

As a side-note, I dropped my big Triton router today and the plunge mechanism is buggered.

I have had my OF2200 for almost a year and it is the most beautiful piece of engineering - on a par with the DF700 Domino. I used mine several times yesterday, doing quite delicate tasks, and it handled like a dream.

Use the mass to your advantage, do not try and use your strength to support the tool but organise your cuts so that the weight of the machine is born by your wood or the bench.

I had to cut a channel in a piece of oak that is to be a drawer front. The channel was to take the bottom of the drawer. I could not use the router table as the cut has to be at a slight angle so I set it up for a guide rail cut. The whole thing was quick and easy, there were no hairy moments and the router was back in its systainer within 10 minutes. The drawer front was just 2 x 10 inches!

I know I'm just a wuss, but I wouldn't even take the OF1010 jogging with me.  [big grin]

Congrats on the new buy, don't think you'll be disappointed. As for size, many people regard it more of a handheld shaper than a router.

Congrats...it is superb in every way.  I love the mass -- it is so well balanced it does not seem heavy pushing it along and the cuts it makes are awesome...
