Graco Ultra Handheld Sprayer

Thoughts on this? I have some misc. projects coming up and it would be nice to just throw some paint in this and spray.

Have a small cabinet to spray, some trim and paint on a shed and a few doors. I have a Fuji HVLP System but would rather not thin the paint for all these misc projects around the house!

I searched and only a thread or two came up on this!

I use mine constantly, I have an HVLP and a Titan airless but the Graco is so much handier for smaller jobs.  I'm in the process of spraying a single door right now.  When I bought mine I also bought the larger cups sold with the Max, saves on refilling.

Ever since this paint gun is crouching up on my „want“ list.

Looks very interesting. I have no experience in spraying other than frustrating ones with cans...

I have the Graco Ultra Max unit.  The Max unit supports all finishes, including lacquer. 

Works great.  Battery life is better than the earlier version since they are now using DeWalt batteries.

Far easier to clean than the earlier gun.  I've used it with Shellac and Water based poly so far.  I have used this version on maybe 3-5 projects.  I had rented the earlier version several times from Home Depot for spraying latex paint and liked the tool but cleaning it and battery life were downsides.

I also have an HVLP 4 stage CapSpray unit that I use, but it was not great with latex paints, which this unit excels at.

I got the Graco Ultra when it first came out and have sprayed about 30 doors so far, mainly with Sherwin Williams Pro Classic and Benjamin Moore Advance.  Great unit with amazing results!

I’m seeing 499 and 699 on HD’s website, which I believe is regular price?

Also I see two other differences purchasers may want to be aware of.  The TC Pro/Plus uses TCP tips (gray) while the Ultra/max uses FFLP tips (green).  It’s unclear if these are equivalent and interchangeable.

Graco is running a rebate promo for free accessories through Jun 30.  With the Ultramax, it’s 3 free FFLP tips and 2 with the Ultra.  The TC Pro/Plus is not listed so it’s unclear if it would qualify.

I bought the Ultra last December and I really like it. Easy to set up and use.

There is a wide variety of tips available for it, so it can do almost anything. The tips are easy to change.

Mine came with the FFLP 514 tip which is good for most projects. I got a 516 for exterior latex, which seems to work better for that viscosity.

The 1 quart maximum capacity requires a lot of refilling on bigger projects. I know that total weight is a consideration for a handheld, but a larger capacity remote bucket would be a nice accessory.

The Max version comes with larger cups and attach exactly the same way.  I have two of each size, extra cup caps, extra of the small caps for squeezing out air...you'll find out why the first time you have the cap all the way open and then screw the cup on...instant shearing off of the small cap.    [embarassed]

[member=25351]rst[/member] - interesting your comment on the larger cups as my max unit came with the standard cups but the larger are optional.  But when I ordered mine, you had the chance to obtain three free tips as a part of a promotion, so that was a nice deal.  Tips are around $35 each.

Good point on the cap shearing.  I'll watch for that!

I just used mine the first liters of paint...

Great unit. What was annoying was that the seal (black) that was in the unit did not work correctly and I had huge amounts of overspray.
Fixed easily by changing to the yellow (intended for solvents) one that come with the tip.

Other than that it it a nice unit, but I definitely will also go and get some larger paint jugs and some smaller tips for the stuff I do...
