I'm a luthier who uses festool orbital sanders to work on guitars. I put together this guide of what to look for when buying a guitar. I go through things like the top quality, top stiffness, hardware quality, etc. Check it out here: intermediate acoustic guitar buying guide

Let me know if anyone in here plays guitar!

I hack around at playing but I really do not play well. I fix better than I play. But I really like Mandolin as much or more than guitar. Nice guide. I will usually take a new player on and let them handle and pluck at the string show a simple chord or two. After they play a few I start asking them what felt better what sounded better etc. most all of them have no idea why they like one more than another and learning why is a good first step to understanding the instrument. I generally won’t pull one off the wall of O don’t like how a couple plucked strings sound.

I help a friend of mine make some guitars by planing and and jointing some pieces for him now and then as I have big tools and he has mostly hand tools. It's pretty fun watching the whole process. The current one he is working on is walnut with two stripes of purple heart running down the neck. He got the wood from Bow River which is near us. It's a pretty dope looking piece.

Good work on the guide OP. Though you gave me a scare having intonation so far down the list! I have a small collection of guitars and mandolins that I never play. Seriously thinking about selling a couple and buying more Festools.  [big grin]
