Hand Tool Cabinet Build

I like the layout and design of your cabinet very much.  What are the approximate dimensions (curious as to the size of the plane on the top shelf)?

It's 30" wide.  That's a LN #7.5 on top.
Thanks for all your kind words, guys!

Is there any sneaky storage in behind the inclined plane storage? A hidden whisky cabinet perhaps [wink]

Beautiful cabinet! Also, being a fan of Lie Nielsen and Veritas (ofcourse I'm from the US ;) ) I'd love to make something for my small but very specialized planes. Thanks for posting this!

Nothing wrong with making a well made cabinet for your well made hand tools.  Personally I store all my hand tools in a 5 gallon bucket of water.  [tongue]

Great job Jim. I made a wall cabinet above my benxh and you reminded me of the time to space the tools and make the holders. That was 20 years ago and it's still going strong.

Thanks for the detailed photos.

Thanks for posting.  Love to see things that guys make.  The tool talk is great but I love the builds and this cabinet is great.

[member=13058]Kev[/member] , Sorry, I missed this first time around.  I thought of a hidden compartment under the ramp till, like Chris Becksvoort's.  But then I'd probably knock the planes off the shelves when opening it so I opted not to.
Besides, I have another hiding place in the opposite corner in an old microscope slide box:

Kirk,

Great job!  Very impressive.

I made one of these myself several years ago.

Sorry, just another giggling rich American with expensive tools and no skill...    [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

Very nice, [member=29138]Steve-Rice[/member] !  How do you like your knew-concepts fret saw?  The coping saw I have pictured is just a place holder for one in the future.    [big grin]

[member=27126]ChrisK1970[/member] , good catch on the funnel.  Makes filling the flask in the plaid sack a snap.  ;)

Awesome. Just awesome! It's like I tell my wife....."how the heck else am I supposed to cut straight if Mr Adams isn't helping me?????"

Truly excellent cabinets and tools you guys...thanks for sharing.

And now... I will introduce you to what's in my shop.  Behold:

[attachimg=1]

For those following along with this build, I will list the tools used:

4 pieces of Scotch Magic Tape of the organic variety
1 Xacto Limited Edition knife made out of molecularly enhanced aluminum with titanium triple bevel blade
1 OTT Woodpecker's Patented Square for Adhesive Products without which I would not be able to cut my tape perfectly square
and
1 third-hand metal cabinet which was found on the side of the road on trash day and which, as luck would have it, had the perfect size door to adhere the poster to.

Would love all questions and comments whereby I might describe my craftsmanship in more detail.

Jim -

I have the Knew Concepts Fret saw.  Really like it a lot.  Use it mostly for cutting pins and tails out on dovetails.  But I've also installed a metal blade in it and used it on aluminum and brass.

Highly recommended.

You don't want to waste anything filling up the hip flask [wink]

Kirk,

I have to agree with Neilc, it's the best fret saw I ever used. Tightens up very nicely.

I've been drooling over the Ti birdcage fretsaws. If they only made the 5" I would have grabbed it already, but the 3", 5", 8" range has me stumped (if they sold them as a discounted set I'd probably have jumped).

It'd be easy to spend thousands on the Knewconcepts web store [embarassed]

Anyone upgraded to an Elkhead handle? ... that'd really disturb [member=60576]Lemwise[/member] [big grin] I'd like the idea of a handle thats a little fatter at the base for grip and control - with my big fat paws.

It always makes me giggle ... when people ask me why I ride an expensive bicycle when I could clearly save thousands of dollars and get the same benefit by losing one of my many extra kilos of body fat and riding a cheaper bike.

[member=13058]Kev[/member] Its because with the expensive bike it's so much easier that you can save loosing those extra kilos.
