I like the layout and design of your cabinet very much.  What are the approximate dimensions (curious as to the size of the plane on the top shelf)?

Nothing wrong with making a well made cabinet for your well made hand tools.  Personally I store all my hand tools in a 5 gallon bucket of water.  [tongue]

Great job Jim. I made a wall cabinet above my benxh and you reminded me of the time to space the tools and make the holders. That was 20 years ago and it's still going strong.

I gotta make one of these too. I like Andy Rae's version (Jim Toplin's "The Toolbox Book") with updates similar to Greg Penningtons..
All my hand tools are still in cardboard boxes or tool rolls.
Pathetic really.

[member=13058]Kev[/member] , Sorry, I missed this first time around.  I thought of a hidden compartment under the ramp till, like Chris Becksvoort's.  But then I'd probably knock the planes off the shelves when opening it so I opted not to.
Besides, I have another hiding place in the opposite corner in an old microscope slide box:

Very nice, [member=29138]Steve-Rice[/member] !  How do you like your knew-concepts fret saw?  The coping saw I have pictured is just a place holder for one in the future.    [big grin]

And now... I will introduce you to what's in my shop.  Behold:

For those following along with this build, I will list the tools used:

4 pieces of Scotch Magic Tape of the organic variety
1 Xacto Limited Edition knife made out of molecularly enhanced aluminum with titanium triple bevel blade
1 OTT Woodpecker's Patented Square for Adhesive Products without which I would not be able to cut my tape perfectly square
and
1 third-hand metal cabinet which was found on the side of the road on trash day and which, as luck would have it, had the perfect size door to adhere the poster to.

Would love all questions and comments whereby I might describe my craftsmanship in more detail.

I have the Knew Concepts Fret saw.  Really like it a lot.  Use it mostly for cutting pins and tails out on dovetails.  But I've also installed a metal blade in it and used it on aluminum and brass.

Highly recommended.

I've been drooling over the Ti birdcage fretsaws. If they only made the 5" I would have grabbed it already, but the 3", 5", 8" range has me stumped (if they sold them as a discounted set I'd probably have jumped).

It'd be easy to spend thousands on the Knewconcepts web store [embarassed]

Anyone upgraded to an Elkhead handle? ... that'd really disturb [member=60576]Lemwise[/member] [big grin] I'd like the idea of a handle thats a little fatter at the base for grip and control - with my big fat paws.

It always makes me giggle ... when people ask me why I ride an expensive bicycle when I could clearly save thousands of dollars and get the same benefit by losing one of my many extra kilos of body fat and riding a cheaper bike.
