I think there is still a local dealer but he is at least semi-retired and only open on afternoons during the week. He is kind of south of the airport. He's in the phone book. His prices are fair, he sells the wood planned, and he sorts out the figured boards and charges more for those. I joined ncwoodworker, however. It is a website only open to people living in North Carolina and surrounding states. I get better deals from people on there but I usually have to drive some to get the wood (once a guy brought it to me). There is also a large dealer near the airport in Charlotte, about an hour and a half away. I don't mind the drive to mills in southern NC. If I need 100 bd ft or so, it seems worthwhile to spend the better part of the day getting the wood (and often meeting the guy who cut and dried the boards). NC woodworker is a large mixture of woodworkers, people with mills, and people in the woodworking business in one way or the other. Worthwhile to visit even without the fact that all I typically do to get a good deal on hardwood is post a thread saying what I need.
