Hose Fittings

Hi guys, I just purchased a TS75 and OF1400. I have yet to buy a hose for dust collection and would like to have it run off my current shop dust collector if possible. I see the hose connections on the TS75 and OF1400 have a few notches proud of the surface, which makes me ask the question, what adapter from festool could I attach to a standard 2.5" dust collection system to fit these tools or what festool hose has the proper connection for these tools? I assume these "notches" dictate only certain fittings.

Welcome to the board :)

The vac side of Festool's hoses are the same as pretty much every "shop Vac". For the size of a hose they come in two sizes. D27 27mm, which fit smaller tools and sanders. It will fit "into" the TS75 and OF1400. The D36 hose is what I would recommend as it will increase air flow big time, and goes "over" the tools fitting. Then you have to decide on a length. There is 3 meter, 5 meter, and 7 meter lengths for the D36 hoses. The 5 meter is what I use and am happy with the anaconda. If you only have so many 2.5" outlets to plug into the 7 meter may make more sense. If you have tons of outlets the 3 meter is more manageable for storage. This is the part number for the 5 meter new style hose. Festool 500684

I think that it is unlikely that your dust collector is going to provide enough air speed to work properly on your new Festools. Shop dust collectors provide high volume at lower speed where as dust extractors like the Festool vacs provide lower volume at much higher air speeds. I’ve never tried it but I doubt that it will work.

Just an update on this.  I am looking to get a 5m hose as the 3.5m just doesn't cut it for me.  I asked here on FOG and [member=5277]Alex[/member]  Alex said that 500684 is the old number.  The newer version which has an RFID chip, is 204925.  After talking to Festool today and to ShopFestool.com, it appears this newer hose also has the bayonet connections.  Not sure if I want that or not but just wanted to update with what I found out.

If you can get a hose, without the bayonet connection, that's what I'd get. I have both. Don't like the bayonet connection.

The other hose also has the bayonet fitting. The bayonet's been around a couple of years already, you can not find the old type anymore, unless perhaps you walk into a store with very old stock by chance.

We'll find out.  I ordered the older number, 500*, yesterday on Amazon just to see what happens.  I really don't want the bayonet fitting.

The original part was 456757, that was replaced with the bayonet style 500668. The 456757 version will be difficult to find. At this point the best bet is to purchase a used hose from someone and remove the old connector.

Hello Rick H.,768138 connector has the old style smooth end,(not bayonet),the new connector end unscrews, and will thread on to old style hose, it will however not now rotate with the tool. This on a 27mm hose. guy

I don't have much to complain when I use my Midi with 27 mm bayonet fitting on Festools, but yesterday I was doing some heavy routing for the first time with my DeWalt router, and the bloody hose kept on falling out!

Never had that problem with the old style fitting before. I was deeply annoyed by this. The outer diameter of the bayonet fitting is slightly smaller than before, and this breaks compatibility with the german 27/36 mm standard for dust ports.

Well, this throws a wrench into the monkey cage.  More part numbers than before.  Either way, I'll take what I get and live with it.  I don't like the bayonet connecter but it is what it is.  I want a 5m, D36 hose most of all.

My D36 came in today.  I ordered the 500684 (on Amazon), but as suggested by Alex, I ended up with the 204925.

Just curious, what tools other than Kapex, really benefit from the D36?  I guess maybe the OF1400?  I assume the planers and other serious contractor tools may, but for me with basic routers, Domino, etc, thinking it doesn't really do much for me.  I really just wanted the longer hose.  Wondering now if I should have gotten the D27 since my Kapex already has a good set up with a dedicated vac and 5' hose from Cen-Tec.

In my experience the D36 hose is better anywhere you can connect it.  I use it with my Kapex, TS55 and 75, floor cleanup adapters, and an adapter I made for my bandsaw.  I use the 27 for Domino XL, sanders, and OF1010.

I said your 500684 would come with a bayonet fitting also, not that you'd get the 204925.  [tongue] Does your hose have the little sticker on the vac-side fitting? That's the RFID chip of the 204925.

The D36 hose is good with any tools that chips wood, like saws, routers, and planers. The 27 hose mostly works best with the sanders. And the 36 is definitely much better with general clean up, more suction and less clogging. The 27 clogs every 5 seconds.

What bayonet fittings are being referenced? I know the 27mm hose has the stupid Cleantec end but the 36mm hose seems like it's just a smooth end to fit over the ports on TS55, OF1400, etc.

I have a 3.5m 27mm hose and am looking at replacing it with the 36mm 5m hose and attaching the 27mm to it when I need to. They'd both be the newer smooth style so they just just plug into each other.

The new 36mm hoses have internal bayonet - you can see the counterpart ribs on the TS55 or TSC55 new dust ports.
This actually means that if you plan to use a D36 hose with the new saws, you are better off with the bayonet version as it fits better over the ribbed dust adapters on the new saws.

With the D27 end the older version is better even with the new tools.

[member=61254]mino[/member] I agree 100%.  I didn't think I would like the D36 with newer fittings but it works pretty well on my track saw (both TS and TSC).  Using it right now on my OF1400 and the bayonet style and it does a great job.  I bought a couple of these

Festool 768135 Reducing Sleeve

and it makes working with the DF500 easier too.
