How to get wider dado cuts with Kapex miter saw

I am trying to use the Kapex to do repeat dado cuts in several pieces of walnut, with 5 dados in each piece. The adjustable cut depth of the Kapex was one reason I got it.
The shelves that fit in the dados are 1/8" Aluminum, but the kerf of the blade is about 1/16-3/32" I think. What would be the best way to get the dados to 1/8"

I would rather not use the router on this, as I ruined 2 pieces last time I did this, since I can clamp down the wood on the Kapex, I am assured I wont get any movement, so I get a straight line.

Cut a shim which is the difference between the kerf width and your desired width of the dado.  Then set up a fixed stop on the left side do the saw which puts the right side of the dado where you want.  Make your first cut.  Insert the shim between the fixed stop and your work piece and make the second cut.

That is an easy fix, I didnt think of it though. I'll probably find a metal shim that works.

Also, if the shim you start with is to thin you can creep to a desired thickness by adding layer(s) of tape to it.

Easier to use a piece of the shelf as a shim. Make the first cut with the shim in and remove it for the second cut.

Yes. Shim = shelf - kerf

Then how  could you use a piece of the shelf as shim? I'm feeling obtuse, this seems like a nice trick so I must be misunderstanding something.

He was saying you can’t. You need a shim that is thinner by the width of the blade, or use the shelf to start and readjust the stop using the lasers to the other side of the blade or the cut will be too wide.
