How to ... wine rack

Somebody mentioned making the base double thick.
How about mixing dark & lite.  it looks as if you could work in a pattern using different woods for eah section.  If you us an overlay, you would not need to rout in a dovetail which would actually leave a stronger joint as you would not need to weaken the upright section by thinning it down to make the tail.

I would add a support leg in the centre of the back, from the base to maybe three feet up. The angle between the base and the leg should be about 80 degrees.

Also, the base does not need to extend past the bottom of the upright at the front.

That non-extension would be fine if the rack was never to contain any bottles, or they drink the contents real quick.

With each row of bottles, there will be several pounds of weight that will be extending out beyond the point of the upright.  The lower bottles would be almost 100% of the weight extending beyond that point, which would actually be the pivot point.
I'm not sure that 80º would be enough slope if there were more than 3 or 4 bottles.  Probably a need to experiment a little to determine pitch and tipping point.  (Tipping of the rack that is.  If one finds tipping point and swigs the excess weight, he would then be tttiiipppppinnng >>>> ooohhh!!! crash!!!@@@)
