Idea for an MFT top

A couple of months ago, one of the FOG members posted a video of a table that he uses to cut sheet goods. The table had wings that could be flipped up to minimize the space used.  When the wings are down, the table had sliding sacrificial pieces that allowed an entire sheet of plywood to fit.  I really liked the idea, but have been mulling on adapting it to the MFT.

The basic design of the top is below, and what I would like to do is hinge it onto the MFT/3. Does anyone know who has a hinge for the MFT to which I could attach this sheet cutting top?  When not in use, you just swing it out of the way.

That's a relatively big top I'm not sure that a hinge would be the best option.  You could, however, just use the tracks around the edge of the mft and clamp it in place when its being used on top?

hi there.
i remember that thread very well. the wings folded up instead of down. the videos of that thread were removed from the thread and it locked because eurekazone own a patent for a design like this and they made him take it down.  [mad]
that didnt deter me thow and i made a cart with wings and pocket hole screwed on uprights. i havnt got around (due to lack of imeadiet need) mounting pieces on drawer slide that pull out.

as for your idea. a hindge will be a lot of work and bother. i like simle solutions so  i would screw 4 pieces of timber to the bottom of the cutting top . they would pass down past the t slot so that a clamp or two could be used to hold it if it wanted to move or tip.

That configuration looks suspiciously like the one Gary Katz showed in his woodworking/trim/something video...  [unsure]

nothing suspicious about it, yes, it does, with the exception that the sliders are not locked down. a good idea is always a good idea, and I do believe that the one you mention looks a lot like the eurekazone's one.

Unfortunately the Eurikazone version is not an option for me because of the shipping to Europe, but 176,45 US$ sounds reasonable and maybe even cheaper than making your own version.

Another solution could be attaching the sacrificial pieces directly to the MFT hole grid and save the extra top. The new Bench Cokie version with risers might also be a cheap solution, but they are not as sacrificial as the ply and my experience with the risers is they are quite loose and a little wobbly in the MFT holes.

good one... I think this can be worked out.
