Jumping into some inlay work and am completely new to the game. I have several PC machines and a Bosch colt but would like to use either the Festool 1400 or 700 for the extraction factor. Can anyone recommend an inlay kit (bushings, cutters etc) that is compatible with either of the festool routers? Starting out with (as yet unknown) some profiles that are pretty simple but might need some handwork to finish so looking for small sizes. Thanks for any help!

The 700 seems like an obvious choice but bought that thing without doing enough research. I feel like I need an instrument rating to operate that thing.

The 700 seems like it would be a huge pain for inlay work without being able to plunge. Why not the 1010?

I agree with squall_line on the 700 and the 1400 is pretty big for inlay but I’ve used it many times for the bigger/wider stuff (bow ties)(assuming these are the two routers you own)
I find the big help is having a led light that is non existent with the festools. Steward McDonald (Stewmac.com, guitar supply) has a nice selection of small quality inlay bits. A cordless router is nice also…stops immediately.

I would definitely pick the OF1010 for inlays. The OF1400 is a bit over-sized for that, plus the bushing centering thing is a factor.
MFK700 are fantastic tools, but not for that.
Since you are talking about bushing type inlays, the whole "light" and "seeing what you are doing" are not nearly as important is when you are actually trying to evacuate an area for a more hand-cut situation.
I second the recommendation of Whiteside, that's what I have.

Thanks for the replies all. Will check out the whiteside kit. I definitely was looking for info on kits that fit the Festool machines. Hadn't thought about the cordless option but will.

As mentioned above, the 1010 is definitely the best option for inlay work in the Festool router lineup.

Ya...OF 1010 along with the Whiteside kit is the charm, unless you want to do the full monty which is springing for the Shaper.  [tongue]

If you decide to go with cordless option most offer a plunge base with dust extraction add on.  links to both the Dewalt and Makita units below
