Another question for the FOG experts.  In addition finishing off the dry wall around my suns sliding window, he had new windows installed. We also need to finish the inside of the windows.  I've looked at several videos on this topic.  He wishes to finish the windows with wood trim.  He wishes to finish the windows with wood moulding and a stool with an apron below the stool.  It appears from the videos I've seen, the the approach would be to build a "box" that fits in the opening of the window, to which the moulding is attached.  The moulding will be painted.  Two questions:
1) is this approach the right way or best way to do this?
2) As this will be painted, use pine? poplar? or?

Thanks again in advance

As long as the jambs are the same depth and not to "wonky" the box method is the way to go. If the jambs need to be cut on a tapper you will have fit each window individually. Determine your reveal/best fit. Cut and assemble 2 sides and top (I go legs under top), install stool to jamb legs, install casing. You can use screws to create a level sill to place the unit on. Install and nail through casing. The hardest part is insulating this type of install, it can be done. just akes a little practice. Install apron. The apron length should be equal to the outside dimension of the casing, the horns on the stool I go 3/4 to 1" beyond the casing outside dimension. Casing should be available in pre-primed finger joint or MDF.

I would not use pine. Seeing as this is a paint application, get a few sheets of 3/4" MDF. Cut your piece out of the sheet. A dimensional piece will most likely need to be trimmed and fitted anyway. If you want to go solids, poplar.
