Is there a small cordless vacuum that doesn't make a mess?

I've been waiting for years for a small battery-powered vacuum that I can use as an actual vacuum for small remodeling tasks around the house without it spewing dust everywhere and clogging the filter 10 seconds after it starts.

So far every cordless vac from Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita or Bosch suffered from the same set of issues:
  • Extremely poor filtering, so dust goes everywhere
  • Impossible to equip with a bag, so filter gets clogged instantly reducing performance to nothing. Cleaning the dust container is no fun either
  • Crappy non-stackable design that's inconvenient to carry or store
  • Poor performance (40 CFM or less)
  • Poor or no on-board storage for hose and accessories

Finally, Metabo has released the AS 18 L vacuum that can be equipped with bags! And it can clean the filter with a press of a button! It's not HEPA, but it sounds like it has decent filtering capability nonetheless. Performance is pretty decent - you get 75 CFM from a lightweight cordless vac that you can take anywhere. And it has a shape of a box! With systainer cut-outs, so you can stack (but not lock) them on top! All accessories, including the hose, can be stored inside. It sounded perfect to me.

I thought that my wait was finally over and the ideal cordless vac is here. I almost bought it, but when I started looking for replacement bags, I couldn't find any US dealer that sells them... Without a bag, I'll have to deal with the mess in the dust bin and hit that button to unclog the filter every minute or so. Which is far from ideal.

Is my search for an ideal cordless vac completely hopeless? Is there something that I'm missing and there is a great vac out there that will keep the filters clean and contain all the dust inside the unit?

Dewalt now has a "Flexvolt dust extractor" with automatic filter cleaning, but no bags. But at least filters get cleaned automatically. It's too new, so no reviews yet, but so far it looks like it's the only cordless vac to consider buying.

The instruction manual for the DeWalt flexvolt shows a bag, and the description says it has "dual filters", which apparently refers to a HEPA outlet filter and a bag.

I have the 20v DeWalt vac, and yes, the bin is a bit of a pain to clean, and getting the caked debris off the filter can be messy, but it has performed well otherwise. It gets used mostly for general cleaning and not extraction for tools, however.

It does include a bag! Dewalt plans to release 3 types of bags for this extractor. That is awesome, I wasn't aware of that, thank you for pointing it out. That's the one I'm going to get then.

I have the 18V Milwaukee box vac, performance is decent at first, but degrades quickly. I'm allergic to some types of fine wood dust, getting the mask on for every filter cleaning is a pain.

Sergeon, check Hitachi.  I won a Hitachi vac for Protoolreviews, the $750.00 Hepa vac.  I could not find bags for it anywhere.  Then I realized that it is a Metabo rebranded.  The bags for the ASR 35 are a perfect match.  Went to Metabo site your bag is fleece filter bag 630173000, unfortunately does not seem to a available domestically, check with the vendors.

Thanks, [member=25351]rst[/member]! That's a nice vac you scored!

No luck with the Hitachi version for me though.

Amazon has some generic 2.5 gallon vaccum bags for Shop Vac, but I doubt they'll fit.

I found the bags on Amazon.de from a 3rd party seller, $46 shipped for a 5 bag pack. However, it's a 3rd party seller who may back out of an international transaction. It happened to me before. Also, it's more expensive than CT26 bags.

Found this in 5 seconds via a web search:
https://www.toolbarn.com/metabo-602021860.html/

[Metabo 602021860 18V HEPA Cordless Vacuum Cleaner (Tool Only)]

What you did you find? Replacement bags for this Metabo? I don't see them at Toolbarn (or anywhere else in USA for that matter).

A cordless HEPA vac that takes bags. Thought that was what you were looking for.

If the Metabo cordless uses the same bag as the ASR then you should know that the Hitachi, the Metabo, the CS Unitec, the Mafell, etc. are all rebranded 2017-model-year Starmix ISP 1445 machines. If you want a name-brand bag go after the Bosch bags that are designed for the Bosch 3931 machine (which was also a rebranded Starmix vac). If you can live with third party, then there are numerous online sources of bags that are compatible. Otherwise, heed the advice given by others and get the Hitachi bags. They're all the same.

There is now! And in my opinion, in the right way. Real vacuums with real performance/ CTLC-SYS. Systainer sized portable and CTLC MIDI / MINI. Can't buy them anywhere yet though.

I will probably buy the CTLC MIDI because I had the CTL-SYS and found that I always used it on a trolley, so I upgraded to a corded MIDI. But the CTL-SYS is limited to the 4.0 Ah batteries and smaller and I own a dozen 5.0 Ah batteries.

I’ll assume you’re using a crappy browser/search engine and don’t stink at searches.

My 10sec search turned up bags for the Metabo at acme , beaver and zoro.
