I'm just using the simple ventri-vac ($70.00 CDN) from Leevalley and now that its up and running I use it all the time. Its great for panels large and small - sanding, routing and domino. Largest panel so far 72 x 20. Even use it for board stock, but has to be 3" and over. The more you use it the more uses you'll find.

My Verdict about apple!   I hate them!

Im kinda regretting buying the Imac some 1 needs to punch some sense into apple and stop dem trying to create their own little world by them selfs.

1.  I wanted to plug my Imac into my 42inch flat screen TV in the kitchen.  I thought it would b simple enough!  I could play movies through the TV no problem! NO! I found out it has a strange Out Display port.  Its kinda DVI but it aint they have made their own DVI which is just Digital and not Digital/analogue or something like that. So I need a adapter! Which converts it into a standard DVI then I then a DVI/HDMI to go into my TV but DVI does not transfers sound so I need a cable for sound aswell!  WHY WHY WHY!!!!!  Why could they not just have a HDMI output?! or atleast just a normal DVI  why be different to the rest of the world?! So now I need to buy a adapter for Imac crap port to DVI  and then a DVI to HDMI cable.

2. I have an old hard drive which is firewire! I thought ill copy everything from that onto the Imac tonight! Well I find out it has not got a standard fire wire! It aint even a small one its a square one I aint never seen a square firewire port.  Only a rectangle or really small one. Well I aint got a cable to fit that so I now need to go out and buy a firewire cable to fit the Imac crap firewire port to normal firewire.

I am surprised they didnt alter the USB ports so you have to buy adapters for that.

JMB

Yea but they want you to buy the apple tv, the apple web adapter, think of all that extra $$ they just made off of you!
Those are the reason's I have not gone to apple... If I had more time Linux would be "fun" but I work long days and want to ride my bike NOT write code.

JMB,

You should have done a little research before rushing out to buy the iMac.  Although it might just be rumors the new models that are about to come out might be getting HDMI.  Those ports are miniDV which is an industry standard.  Look at the current video cards.  That's what they have.  Allows for more room inside and a compact overall size to your system.  There are miniDV to HDMI adapters so you don't have to string together different ones.

JMB,

It sounds as though your iMac has firewire 800 ports, ie a faster version of the firewire 400 on your old disk.  Just a newer and faster standard - an adaptor cable will sort it!

This is what I need either the second adapter on this page or the 3rd!  The second looks the best as I can use a standard HDMI and bot sound and video will go into my TV.   My TV has 3 HDMI but if I turn the HDMI on how do I get sound into my TV if I just used a DVI? As I cnt see a sound input which will turn on at the same time when I select HDMI 1 or 2 or 3? Only with Component or VGA  or am I wrong and if I still use a sound input for the VGA or componet sound will still come come out of the speakers even when I select HDMI on my tv?

I see! I looked for display ports! I been reading loads people buying this saying wont work cus it wont transfer analogue and stuff like that. I dont know! I just know I have to buy more cables! and I think this one is the best for me!
http://www.kanexlive.com/products/iAdapt51.html

Apple only do a mini display port to VGA or DVI  so they wont be getting any money of me!  Im getting the Kanex ! haahahaha!!

Hi JMB

Re CNC, have a look at this site http://www.cnc-step.de/   I don't know what size you want to go up to but for smaller working areas e.g. 1m they are a pretty good deal (about GBP2.5k) and high quality. I am about to take the the plung, as good for smaller work, and also good for makign jigs for larger stuff (I think there S series with 0.02mm accuracy will do me just fine). They have a reseller in NI http://www.prototools.co.uk/

I also got the VAC-SYS and love it, mainly for quick thinks like clamping bits for use with the domino, sanding etc. It deserves a permanent set-up, and then just becomes like a super fast vice, without leaving any marks on the wood. I got the kit with the addition suctions cups which do come in use

Looks at that http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kanex-iAdapt-DisplayPort-Adapter-Toslink/dp/B0031QH1BG

cus off apple I now have to spend £48 quid! for no reason at all!

Just get something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-HDMI-Adapter-Display-Port/dp/B0027HYK7S/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1293996686&sr=1-2

and don't get sucked into the bullshit around cable quality. I have seen people spending £100+ on HDMI cables, but its pretty simple, its all digital, so it either works or doesn't, a £10 cable will work just as well as a £100, its not like the old analogue days where it did make a bigger difference. Bigger isue with digital is more to due with the synching and accuracy of the timers in the digital components. For speaker cable etc those since it analogue the cable quality does make a big difference

Thank you!

But I am looking for a minimum size of 8'x4'  I would like a larger one but I can not afford that so as long as it can take 8'x4' sheets of MDF or ply

+ auto 0  for tools
+ auto tool change
+ Vacuum base
+ circular saw
+  more lol

This is what I am interested in I spoke to the company the other week
I told him what I wanted to do and everything and what I wanted and he recommend the Nested base which comes with everything I want on it!

Yeah I know I have one 60quid HMDI which is only 1meter and the rest only cost me like 15 and they are 2 or 3 meters and I can see no difference.

No wa I am saying is does the Minidisplay output sound?!

So either the one you just showed me will that play sound or would I need this one because it plugs into the audio output for sound going through the HDMI. The usb is power supply apparently I dont know why it need power.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kanex-iAdapt-DisplayPort-Adapter-Toslink/dp/B0031QH1BG

I am just confused to why one needs to use the headphones for sound and the others dont.

Ah well why not stick with another great tool brand like Festool and go with Felder (http://www.felder-group.com/fg-en/video.html) they will do the CNC you need no probs.

Just joking, their machines are at the very high end.. and what you are looking for is much more advanced than me, but will look forward to seeing the pictures of your purchase whatever you choose!

Have a look at this, I think its a helpful explanation, but in short, the PC/Mac should detect the HDMI adapter and output HMDI compliant data stream via the displayport inc audio

A!  Thank you very much!

I read all of it!  I now need to know if the Imac 27' have enabled sound through the display port as it stats on that link you sent me that it does support sound but its up to the manufacture of the company if they have enabled sound.

he says on the video it does not support sound?!?!?
