Just got a ts75, is it supposed to make so much noise starting up?

The saw kinda sounds like an angle grinder while soft-starting.

Is this normal? Is it a feature?

mine does that too.  i remember someone said it normal.

Yes,  it's due to the backlash (clearances) in the gear train and the MMC electronic speed control when NOT under load.  I, too, was concerned the first time I powered up my TS and heard those noises, then I read the explanation by other owner/users here on FOG.

Here's a short video I made of the sound of the MMC controlled motor on the TS55. The sound in the video is normal and your TS75 has the same sound.

The noise is caused by the motor regulating speed. It's normal.  ;D
