Kapex vs Midi

Hi all,
I've recently bought the kapex on a UG  ( unter-gestell) stand and am using it with my Midi which is a year old. Every 3 or 4 cuts the hose comes out normally as I pull the blade forward. Obviously I don't realise it till the saw is spewing dust everywhere, which last week was in a clients kitchen. Do I need an adapter of some sort?

You might want to experiment on how the dust "nozzle" so to speak on the Kapex is rotated to see it you can get a perfect position  for your situation.  I know personally that I have to occasionally tweak mine because as I pull the head forward the ridges on the hose catches on what is holding the Kapex.

I know what you mean ..it's almost as if it needs an attachment to hold it out of the way.  Tbh though, the hose is not a 'press-fit'..there's no slack but it's not tight either..

Would seem a likely candidate for upgrading to the new bayonet type hose fitting.

I use a Bosch 35 mm hose on my Kapex attached to my Midi. No problems with it coming off. Amazone has the Bosch 35 mm for about $20.00 delivered if you have prime. Shorten the hose and it works better.

I suspend a section of the vac hose above the Kapex with a bungee cord attached to an eyebolt screwed into the wall behind the Kapex. The set up prevents any snags from pulling the hose off the Kapex nozzle.

I use a Festool 35mm hose, cut down to the minimum length needed to reach the vac, no problems. Also provides better dust extraction because of the higher air flow (higher diameter + less length = less resistance and turbulence).

In case you want to stay with the 27mm hose of the midi you could use a coarse sanding paper and roughen up the inside of the capex dust port (using rotating movements, not in/out) to give it a bit more grip on the inserted connector.

I'm not particularly bothered whether I stay with the 27mm hose or not..I do, however, only have one vac and will need to swap to use the 55, 1400 or even the 700 so would this be hassle free if I was to change diameter hoses?

I solved this initially with 1x452898 (50mm Y-connector) and 2x497926 (50mm dust gates) so both hoses are always attached and I open the one I want to use (35mm one for kapex and a sleeved 27mm one for the usual hand tools). Using a 35mm hose with the Kapex IMHO gives better extraction, reducing the mess around it.

Later I added a small cyclone (left over from something completely different a while back, accepts the 50mm festool hose connectors perfectly) with a 50mm hose to the vac and the Y-connector connected with a 499196 at the input side of the cyclone (to not have it directly attached as a big lever). When sanding I open the other gate (hose to the Kapex) a bit instead of turning the vac down, this nicely reduces the suction at the 27mm hose for the Rotex to the level I want (no swirl marks but still perfect extraction) while increasing air speed in the cyclone (even better fine dust separation compared to the 27mm hose alone). As I don't need to turn down the vac for sanding, thanks to the bypass, this also works good with a CT-SYS.

It sounds really good but I'm on site( domestic) 99% of the time. It seems like it would be a real hassle setting up all the different hoses etc. and still having  room to move around.

With the Y connector with the dust gates resting in the hose garage of the vac (with it put under the kapex) they're in a good location to be reached and the hoses are not really in the way (especially when you use a short, big diameter one for the kapex).

Should you switch between the Kapex and whatever you have on the other hose frequently over the day the overhead of carrying the extra parts and setting them up might be worth it for you, as operating the gates is quicker (and cleaner) than having to swap the hoses on the vac each time.
