Lightweight mdf

I have a large (well large for me) built in shelving/media unit to make and fit, I would normally make something like this out of Moisture Resistant MDF. Problem is this one has to be made in workshop, disassembled, transported to site, carried up 2 flights of stairs then reassembled/fitted. To save my back I was wondering about using lightweight mdf, probably just for upright sections with adjustable shelving track routed in and for the backs. Will be using tulip wood for shelves as each section about 48" wide. Anyone got any experience of using lightweight mdf, is it suitable for this kind of thing?

Thanks in advance, Doug

I have used it on a few projects, the  weight savings is not that much over regular MDF, so you may want to look at the price point, but for the way that you looking to use it you will be fine. I have also made 1x frames that I skin on both sides w/ 1/4 " ply, leaving a 1x1 dado around the outside to make mounting easier, this is a very lightweight system ( even made uppers out of 1/8" skins)

Here are some alternatives.
Normal MDF weights 620-640 kg/m³.
- Ecoplex (370 kg/m³)
- Eurolight (255-325 kg/m³)
- Panoxil (480-530 kg/m³)
- Stabikern (140-285 kg/m³)
- Stabilo massive (350 kg/m³)

Alas I have no experience with all of these materials.
