LR32 and parallel guides (cheap option to get started?)

Hello,

I would like to use the LR 32 to drill the holes in some cabinet's that I'm building. Being on a tight budget I was looking at ways to reduce the cost. Shopping on Ebay I found that you can buy the parts separately. Having the parallel guides on my wish list I was wondering if it would not be possible to just buy the base plate (FESTOOL F?hrungsplatte, FP - LR 32 Nr. 494340) and 5 mm hole drilling bit and use it with the parallel guides (FS-PA), instead of the guides that are part of the LR 32 set. Seems to be that it would require a bit more calculation when setting up, but with the baseplate being about 25% of the cost of the full system, it would allow me to save quite a bit of cash while still being able to finish my project.

BTW I already got a 1400 mm guide rail with the hole pattern when I bought my TS55 knowing that I would want to get a LR32 sys one day.

You will need the linear stops and the edge stops to setup accurately.  Once the parallel guides are setup on the rail and adjusted, doing multiple panels is easy.  Brice Burrel did a tutorial on this method and I saw him demonstrate it at router class last week.  It is a real time saver!

Thanks for the link. I see that at least the edge stops are needed to work accurately. The side stops seem optional in this setup if I understand it right. They are just allowing a more convenient initial setup.

Anyone know the part number of the edge stops?

The side stops ensure that your LR32 holes are precisely aligned with the parallel guides and the boards so that you shelves will sit flat.  If one row of holes is off by a mm, then the shelves will rock.   [scared]  All this Festool equipment is still much less expensive than a Blum boring machine.

Part of me is tempted to get the full set and be done with it. But.. the wife might kill me if she finds out what the bloody thing costs (especially after just getting the TS55, MFT3, two rails and an OF1010).

This is the set I have. It has all of the LR32 parts you need. It does not come with a Systainer, clamps and router bits. I think this might be good compromise and or value for you over the full set.

I agree with Brice.  That set has just about everything you need.  I purchased the set and the 5mm brad point bit.  I'm a happy camper.  Don't regret not buying the full kit that costs a little bit more.  In fact, I used the extra cash to buy the 1010 router.

What put me off the track is that the picture of the kit shows the side stops, but not the end stops, but reading the description I see that they are included. This is exactly what I need and what I'll buy. Found one for around 160 EURO + 30 for the bit, instead of the 390 EURO for the complete set, it is a good way to get started.

I know this post is old but I wonder if I can buy the end stops separately.  Is there a part number?
I am planning to buy only the Festool 494340 LR 32 Guide Plate and see if it works with the parallel guides, the guide plate is only $104.00

Those Longitudinal Stops are 485760 and are considered spare parts as opposed to accessories.
