Hi! I also have the Mafell MT 55 . and stronger motor.Just ask any one that have a MT 55.I STILL LOVE MY FESTOOL I HAVE  A ROUTER  A SANDER AND A CORDLESS DRILL DRIVER. IN Mafell i have the mt55 ,p1cc and mafell duo dowell DD40P.

I have just bought a Duo Doweller DD40G. Could you on a new thread give some of your experience with it and maybe tips that you have discovered that increases the scope of this amazing tool.? There is so much info and user experience available for the domino but nothing for the duo doweller, so it would be much appreciated.

Hmmmm...this thread is making me reconsider my options on the TS55 impending recall.

+1,

I just trying to see what differences are between accessories and I might take the plunge (no pun intended).

I think they don't have the parallel guide system, something that I will have to make to replace the one from festool.

I don't own the MT55cc yet.  I just recently got one of their larger track saws and the build quality/design is extremely impressive.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the brand.  As mentioned above, the MT55cc has the added benefit of working with Festool rails too.  So if you have a collection of rails and/or the MFT/3 you won't really need anything else.

Bosch also uses the Mafell guide rail system, the rails and accessories are identical for both brands except for the branding of course.

There's been a lot of talk about how awesome connecting these rails is. So I thought it might be useful for those who haven't actually seen it in action yet, to have a little video.
I found a Bosch video demonstrating the rail system. You can clearly see the ease of joining guide rails and how the connector just stores on the rail itself.

Jonathan, what are you doing to me? My wife will never forgive you!

Those rails are very impressive. You should create a new thread.

The rail is but the saw is far from identical.    Alot features removed and less power and quality reduced.

Just saying incase people think oh I can buy a Bosch model instead of mafell.   You get what you pay for!

The mafell is alot better than the Bosch version.

I know I was just saying.

This lad on a job I was working on seen me using festool TS55 went shop saw a Makita version identical to festool and thought its same so bought that instead.  People might do same with mafel/Bosch but their is a big difference in the two.

given that the maffel works on the festool rail, will the festool work on the maffl rail. 2 of those rails would be great for site use. best thing is that they join straight every time

No it won't dude,

The mafell has a separate groove you remove the filler piece and it will go onto the festool rail.   My mate leaves his plastic filler piece out which is dead annoying because when I use his saw I often drop the mafel sawl into the wrong slot because they are pretty much together and because the festool uses a very wide slot I often drop into that one.    He says you get use to it and you won't do it over time.

The mafell uses a really thin slot  which is off set from where the festool one is so you can't even make a piece of metal or plastic which will fit into the festool ts55 to reduce the groove width.

Here's a picture Hogarth posted earlier that shows what JMB is talking about. There's a blanking plate that fits in the Festool side if you're only going to use Mafell rails.

JMB,

When you say, remove the filler is a permanent change or can you put it back?

I am thinking to buy the MT55 and use it at the beginning with the festool rails and then eventually go to the mafell.

That would suck if that happened, they he return it?

Does the mafell come in a sustainer?  I read somewhere that it ships in a mafell "box".

You can clearly see the ease of joining guide rails and how the connector just stores on the rail itself.

Which of course the Festool does as well (other than being able to use a coin instead of a screwdriver).

Is there an actual accuracy advantage to the Mafell/Bosch track?  1) Do you still have to leave a tiny gap to allow for minor imperfections (potential lack of squareness) in the rail ends, and 2) Is there less play in the single connector vs. Festool's two connectors?

With respect to the lack of a riving knife on the Mt55, Mafell claims it is unnecessary because of the combination of its higher power motor and some kind of anti kickback circuitry.  Even if true, I would think having a riving knife can reduce the load on the motor by preventing the kerf from closing after the cut.

There is an aftermarket for festool guides to make it easy to join 2 rails.

It explains the accuracy to use this method.  It is similar at what mafell uses.

in other words, yes there is an advantage to use the mafell way to join 2 rails.
