Metabo Drill chuck

I seem to remember this topic being covered, but I can't find it.

Not so long ago I purchased a Metabo SB 18 LTX BL Quick, wanting a 'do it all rechargable'. It came with a regular jaw chuck and a quick release hex chuck. The drill is fine except for the hex chuck, which has far too much lateral movement. I returned the part to the vendor who replaced with a new one, but just the same. So I decide to try a Centrotec chuck and this works just fine (with Centrotec bits), no lateral movement! The metabo stub is 11.58mm diameter and the Centrotec rear is 12.03mm, but because the Centrotec is a much tighter construction and the drill bits extend right the way through to the drill stub it works fine. Have any forum members had a similar prob?

I drill w/ the Jacobs chuck, drilling w/ quick release chucks is silly IMHO.

No experience of Mafell drills, are they made by the same manufacturer as Metabo?

I agree, I would normally use Jacobs type chuck, but I swop to the hex for countersinks. I only have one drill.

To my understanding. The mafell and metabo drills are identical apart from branding and cosmetics.

Will the metabo bit holder fit the festool drill? I ask because I want to be able to use normal hex bits direct. The centrotec bits are a con and expensive. I have already converted a wera kraftform one handed bit holder to centrotec but want to see other options that work. I have checked out the new Axminster centrotec bit holder but its not a one handed operation to change bits like the wera.

No, the Metabo bit chuck does not fit Festool. I did try this option some time ago as I think the Metabo bit chuck is better.
There is a very slight difference in shank width between Festool and Metabo. :(

Thanks Henrik. Yes its looks like a better bit holder thats why I was hoping it may work.
