MF-TB multifunction tool box

Somehow ??? I missed this thread the first time around.

I have now received (and happily paid for) a set of plans.  The plans are excellent and will build at least one MF-TB soon.

I think that I will also built the jigsaw table variation (even though I won't be able to talk about it or show any pictures here  [sad] ).

You've said too much.....

Hey Tim did you sell your design to Festool? I see they are releasing something strikingly similar to your MFTB. ???

Almost finished making Timothy's MFTB. It has been more of challenge than I thought it'd be but good fun.

I can't find the clasp he's using to close the box - in the UK at least. Anyone have any supplier or an alternative?

Thanks!

That's what the owner of the patent (workbench on top of a systainer, so called systand) tried to do without success. Therefor festool added it to the systainer itself to not violate the existing patent.

Didn't meet their market..... [blink]

All finished! Great plans and fantastic email support from Tim! I'd recommend anyone with Festool kit having a go at this. Already been very useful.

Few notes:

*In UK case lock called toggle latch. Had trouble locating see above. But now found everywhere. Ended up buying from CPC: http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=FN02183 (£2.50 for 5 and free delivery!). Screwfix also do them have recently noticed. Must remember to take rip-off B&Q ones back!

*I skipped compatibility with classic Systainer - just ran out of time and felt would generally been on top of new drills which are t-loc

*I didn't use templates - which saves time but would of course be more hassle if built another!

*I used all scrap and rushed it so doesn't look wonderful but perfectly utilitarian

*Imagined it would be hard to get it to fit snugly with bottom T-loc - but not so - Tim's directions spot on. A few extra pics to help cutting the pieces that fit in bottom systainer would be helpful - it's obvious after you've done it - but front pieces are mirrored!

*Careful screwing through little circular latch for T-loc - split the wood (walnut) first go even with large pilot holes. Used a drum sander attachment on pillar drill at 20 degrees to refine this latch after cutting initially on bandsaw. This took a bit of time

*Wasn't clear on orientation of corner blocks of pine from instructions - but doesn't really matter. Length different when butted together

*Would be quite handy for instructions to point out what's vital, what's useful and what is purely aesthetic.

One day Tim - I'll build the big MFTC-Eng!

Good day all... I just joined the FOG after purchasing my first Festool (TS-55 REQ and CT48) and of course immediately ordered Tim's plans... for all three! I'll report back when building is done. Thanks!

I finally got around to building two MT-TBs and am very happy with them.

I did use the plans a little bit but, mostly, I made use of the photos that came with the plans and took measurements from my existing systainers.

I did make a few additions and modifications to the design -the most obvious one being the fence that doubles as a handle on the systainer to the left in the picture.

A couple of people have contacted me asking for more information about my build project for these systainers.  I do have many notes and photos but, since one of the boxes facilitates the use of a jigsaw in a manner that Festool USA does not advocate, I have not posted this material here.

Anyone who wishes to see my notes may contact my privately (fpellow@sympatico.ca) and I will send my notes to them.

A great advantage of a well constructed wooden systainer is that one can stand on it.

I occasionally stood on the systainers from Festool and Tanos but, when doing so, was nervous that I would crack them.  I am very confident that these wooden systainers can easily support me.

That's one way to show off your work! [big grin]

You did a great job on those.  They look great.

Mike A.

I have made some enhancements to the systainer that holds the jigsaw.

The first enhancement is a guard that can be attached to the table when the fence is not in use.  (aside: Since this photo shows a safe use of the saw, I assume that Festool will not object to it)

I also made a couple of trays to hold batteries and charger, accessories and blades:

Thanks Tim.  I feel like a student whose teacher has just given him an A mark on his project.

Maybe, I have now graduated and can attempt an MFTC next.  I think that I will, at least, order the MFTC plans from you.
