I just got a job to make some laminate counter tops  goodie!  I get to use my new toy.  so, any tips that I need to know would be helpful.

I will be doing the 1 1/2" strip on the edge first then the top then trim.

was told to buy the chamfer/edge trimming bit.  491026

I have done lamiinate many times before but with the regular edge bit on other routers.  so I will be using the mfk 700 this time around.

thanks in advance

I would also pick up 491666, or the equivalent with the replaceable carbine cutters (I can't read the model number on mine, and the catalog shows the 45* photo for both).  I bought the promo bit set, and have been very pleased.

It may be worth making a mock up to practice, but the learning curve is short.  The biggest difference is that you can throw your file away.

Are you using laminate for the edge band?  If so, make two cuts.  With the first cut, I leave about 1/64" to 1/32", and the second is the flush cut.

Trimming the top is straight forward, and pretty much the same as using any other laminate trimmer.

I've used the same setup recently it worked very well. Less filing than before as was said. And much quicker overall.

There is also one of the replacement cutter type bits with one side that is flush trim and the other piece of carbide puts the chamfer on the piece.  I can not seem to find the part number at the moment.

For the couple of laminate counters I've done, I prefer to use edges from Keuhn Bevel , these completely eliminate the black laminate edge.  Not really what you asked, but thought I'd pass along the web site in case others may be interested.

I ordered the 491026 bit, the chamfer edge bit from bob  and I will have it on thursday, thanks to 2nd day air, oh and 13 bucks!  but the job is on friday so I wanted to make sure I had it.

will follow up with pic and how did it work after the job and I get the check!  (thats when you know it worked !  lol)
