MFK 700 height adjustment this difficult?

I just received the MFK 700 from Recon and am getting to know it. The height adjustment on the 1.5 degree base works as I would expect. I turn the knob one way to raise the motor and the other way to lower the motor.

But the vertical base isn't doing this. Increasing depth of cut works as expected, but decreasing depth of cut requires me to pull on it or exert pressure to push the base away from the motor. This wouldn't be so bad except that the up-down travel of the base is sticky. Sometimes it moves freely and other times it gets stuck, and I have to jiggle and pull and push to free it up.

This seems odd to me, but given some of the Festool issues, maybe this is normal.

I looked at the manual and all it says is to turn the knob to raise and lower the motor on the vertical base.

Can anyone let me know if the height adjustment on the vertical base is supposed to work in both directions, that is, when turning the knob both clockwise and counter clockwise?

Thanks

Don’t recall if I’ve ever done it that way, I normally adjust the base off the work piece. I’ll try it tomorrow to see how it feels with the weight of the motor on it.

Tried both of mine. One has 2 locking screws, the other has 1, as long as I unlock them properly they are both smooth.

Mine go up and down smoothly but there's a little more backlash than I'd prefer. It always seems to take a quarter-turn or so to get going. Actually, in my dream world, routers would all have some kind of incremental depth adjustment. Like an Incra rack only vertically oriented.
