Finally got a chance to shellac my mft top and I figured I'd do a mod while I was at it. Since I'm always setting up and breaking down my mft I decided to make some fence indicators and a rail positioning improvement.
The easy one first, the rail. I got tired of slipping on the rail mounts from the left....the looong way. Why it's this way I don't know, but I didn't see any drawback to simply moving the stops to the other side of the mounts so that you slide them on from the right. Much easier.

The fence indicator is to keep me from setting my fence too close to the cut area. In a past post I mentioned that I cut my fence by mistake when making a bevel cut. It turns out I was not the only one. So I set up my fence to where I like it and made some markings, showed them up with a little green paint and then shellac everything to somewhat protect it. I did the same for the other side as well when it comes time for me to flip the top.

The large green mark is to indicate a comfortable area to set the end of the fence without any danger. The small green mark, here, is to indicate the angle unit assembly as I set it up the same way every time. This way I don't have to rely on the large indicator every time since you can't see this area when the rail is down. This is the very reason I cut my fence in the first place. I also painted one of the screws green so all I have to do is line it up with the mark and I'm good to go.
