MFT fence locator and rail mod

Finally got a chance to shellac my mft top and I figured I'd do a mod while I was at it.  Since I'm always setting up and breaking down my mft I decided to make some fence indicators and a rail positioning improvement.

The easy one first, the rail.  I got tired of slipping on the rail mounts from the left....the looong way.  Why it's this way I don't know, but I didn't see any drawback to simply moving the stops to the other side of the mounts so that you slide them on from the right.  Much easier.

The fence indicator is to keep me from setting my fence too close to the cut area. In a past post I mentioned that I cut my fence by mistake when making a bevel cut. It turns out I was not the only one.  So I set up my fence to where I like it and made some markings, showed them up with a little green paint and then shellac everything to somewhat protect it.  I did the same for the other side as well when it comes time for me to flip the top.

The large green mark is to indicate a comfortable area to set the end of the fence without any danger.  The small green mark, here, is to indicate the angle unit assembly as I set it up the same way every time.  This way I don't have to rely on the large indicator every time since you can't see this area when the rail is down. This is the very reason I cut my fence in the first place.  I also painted one of the screws green so all I have to do is line it up with the mark and I'm good to go.

Good move!  I posted this idea here a couple of times a few years ago without any response from others.  Nice to see that at least someone was able to also figure this out!    [thumbs up]

Thanks Corwin   ;D     Great minds think alike   [laughing]

BTW I apologize for the insane pics.  I don't know why they open so big and blurred up.  If one of the moderators could tell me how to fix it I'll take care of it.  Or just post new pics.  Thanks.

LITW,

The pics are so big because the piece of software that was installed to automatically re-size the pics was causing an issue, so Shane had to un-install it.

When you post pics, you now need to re-size the images yourself to a reasonable size before uploading them. I find 800-900 pixels wide works well, and means people can view them without having to scroll sideways.

Best thing to do is re-size the images on your computer, then edit your post. Click on "additional options..." below the text box, and un-check all the images. Now click 'save changes'. You should now have your post with all the images missing. Go into edit again, and re-attach the new, smaller images.

actually Corwin, I found that post a while ago when I got my first MFT/3 and have used it now on all my tables...Simple enough for sure no offense taken please but maybe it was too simple and not many people went along with it. Either way Thank You now as I never said thanks before

Yes, it is a simple idea, and I take no offense at all.  You are most welcome and your saying "Thank You" is greatly appreciated.   [big grin]
