MFT template for custom tops.

Anthony,
Is the 20 mm bit you are using a hinge boring bit? I have found those drill a 20.2 mm hole which is a bit loose for my taste. I have found 20mm forester bits which are true to size but they are meant for drills and not routers. It wasn't clear to me if they would be safe to use in a router.

I used the following bit which gave me nice tight 20mm holes. Bosch T15020 Hinge Boring Bit Carbide Tipped RH, 20MM "European Type Hinges" . Also I have heard great things about the Festool bit Festool 491072 Euro-Hinge Boring Bit HW 20mm, but it is about twice as expensive.

**note, those are both 10mm shank bit so you may need a 1/2" to 10mm reducer, I used Amana RB-120 REDUCTION BUSHING 1/2 TO 10MM.

Does anyone know if this will have the same bolt pattern as a OF2000?

Unfortunately I think the bolt pattern on the of2200 of1400 and of1010 are all different. Actually I don't know if there are mounting holes on the of2200. If there are you could drill your own holes in the template . I will do another video to show how to keep a consistent drilling alignment even if you are a little off center on mounting your router.

Will this work with a Bosch 1617 and how can I order if so?

This is not currently drilled for the Bosch, However that being said, you can drill it to fit your router. I will try to make a video on how to make it fit other routers. It's as simple as using your pre-exisitng base plate to layout your mounting holes, lining up with the center hole then drilling holes for your router.

I am working on a basic website for people to order from via Paypal for secure ordering. It should be up sometime next week. I will be posting that website in this thread and On the video for how to use.

Thanks,
Anthony

Hello,

From the picture above, I see a Festool rail with Rail Dogs.  I think they are not the QWAS ones.  Where can I find the ones in the picture.

Thank you

You can get similar ones at Qwas dogs called Rail dogs: http://qwasproducts.com/RailDogs.html

The ones in my video, I made. I did a video sometime back on how to make your own with 20mm Aluminum rod and a Standard woodworking lathe at:

This is great! I'd love to have one for my 1010.

Thanks!

Thank you for your interest, If you have the 1010, make sure there are holes to mount a template to. Each of the Festool routers seem to have a different layout. Also the Boring bits are 10mm which I think are too large for the 1010 router. Double check before purchasing at Template kit. Thanks!

Forstner bits are not designed to be used in routers. Routers turn too fast...

Festool's 20mm diameter hinge boring bit, 491072, has an 8mm shank to be used in their routers. Most boring bits have 10mm shanks because most boring machines are 10mm.

Tom, Just to be clear then, The boring bit that you get with the LR32 system for 35mm holes, is not to be used with the router? It's a larger version of their 20mm bit and has the same 8mm shank.  Thanks for the information.

Since I wasn't able to get a reply from Tom as the use of the 20mm boring bit in a router, The Festool USA website lists Euro-hinge boring router bit, 20mm diameter - 491072  as a router bit. This is your safest bet for boring your 20mm hole and has had great reviews. It's available at http://www.bobmarinosbesttools.com/euro-hinge-boring-bits-hw-8-mm-shank/p/491072/

'Sorry, Anthony - I was tied up...

Both of the Festool boring bits, 491072 (20mm) and 491077 (35mm) are router bits.

Forstner bits are drill bits and are not meant to be spun at router speeds.

Apparently the Freud bit you are using is a classic boring bit for use in a boring machine. They generally have 10mm collets and the bits have 10mm shafts.

Thanks Tom.

I have updated my recommended bit to the Festool bit on my site. Thanks again for your insight.
