Some music stands in Curly Maple, Wenge, Ebony, and brass.

One for my brother who ordered it for his wife.
Another for my other brother for a wedding present.
And one for my Mom for Mother's Day/ early birthday present.

All of them are successful violinists.

The most important festool used in building these was the OF1010. It's an amazing little router. I cut the sliding dovetails with it with one depth setting, using the edge guide for the female (dadoe) and the edging attachment to cut the male (tail). I also used it to cut the adjustment slot in the posts. I didnt do much power sanding but only hand sanded with a block to remove a few ridges left from hand planing.

Fantastic job yet again Eiji-

The base looks to be one piece, correct?

How do you saw the base - is that on a tablesaw and then cleaned up with a plane?

I'll bet they are all BETTER violinists with those stands by their side.  Quite the inspiration.

Very nice!

I have the same questions as Neil, especially about the base.

I'm also curious about the weng? part of the stand.  It looks like there's a notch under the topmost weng? shelf.  Is that for the violin bow?  Is that second shelf there for something in particular for a violinist?

The bases are one piece. bevels were bandsawn since the cuts are about 5" long and then hand planed

Yes the notch is for the bow. The lower shelf is for misc practice items. Pencil, metronome, stereo remote. These are studio stands and the lower shelf is for convenience.

Was I keeping it secret? I just figured anyone would be able to look at it and figure it out. ::)

The pics really dont show the figure that well. here is a pic showing the figure Im talking about.

Fantastic work. The bases are simply stunning.
I bet those become family heirlooms.

Just beautiful, Eiji!!!  I can't imagine anything less from you.

Thanks Wino.

I do alot of work that is alot lower caliber. I just dont show it off.  ;D

Nicley done sir! You have a good eye for detail.  Very elagant pieces.  Is the secondary wood ebany? Did you build the stairs in the background of pic 0040?

The secondary wood is wenge. The adjustment knobs are ebony. The wenge is dyed ,  filled, and stained. After all that I should have just ponied up the $65/bf for ebony and saved a ton of work.

Thanks for the Kudos fellas,

Wish me luck as I have submitted one and it has been accepted for judging at the Design in Wood International WWing Competition.

Eiji

Congratulations on the submission acceptance Eiji.  That design is stunning.  It should win!
