Need some LR-32 Help

I'm about to drop the hammer on some LR-32 parts. I've got a big built-in remodel project looming on the horizon and I'm getting geared up for it. I already have a couple of the 5mm boring bits for my OF-1000 and I have a few empty Systainers, so I'm leaning away from buying the complete set. At first I was just going to buy the holey rail and the router base. Then I watched a couple videos and the rail stops look pretty convenient. Then it looks like the end stops would be useful, too. So now I'm almost back at the full box set.

So, my question for the LR-32 users is, how much of the stuff in the box do you really use and what just sits in the box?

[member=7266]jeffinsgf[/member] Hi, I use all of it, although admittedly I made up my own longer parallel guides to use in lieu of the ones Festool provides. And the screw clamps get used for other things around the shop now that I use my vac sys to clamp the rail down.

For cabinetry and doors it all works really well.

Hi Jeff,

I was in a similar boat recently, I bought the full set.

Go ahead and sell the other bits and enjoy using the system.  Festool stuff is selling well on ebay, if you sell the boring bits and systainers you'll have a good chunk towards buying the full set.

The LR-32 still comes in the gen 2 T-Loc only at the moment, which might be a consideration for you.  If you buy the full set and find out you don't use parts of it, sell the parts.  That's what I do, I buy full sets and sell of the plug-its, accessories, systainers etc.  After all is said and done, the tool I'm left with and accessories end up costing me ? as I've recovered a bunch of money by selling off the bits I don't want/need.

[member=65062]DynaGlide[/member] makes a good point about the clamps.  I've read your other thread about longer parallel guides, have you got bar details  I'll try and source some for myself as it's a great idea, useful for others reading this thread.

Another alternative at approx the same price point is the Schmitt 32 system. The down side is that it's not as compact as the LR 32, but probably faster to set up & use. The aluminum rails and router plate is certainly constructed to industrial standards.

Here's the Schmitt router sled...machined aluminum rather than stamped steel. Ready to accept an OF 1010.

In order to use the LR 32 properly you need all the pieces

I use everything but the clamps. Dont use the screw clamps instead I use the rapid clamps.

Even the 35mm hinge bit I use.

I bought a extra set of end stops and the things that set the 37mm set back ya use on the rail that way if I have a lot of cabinets to build I can do 2 at a time

After buying my own set, and watching video after video, and attending training classes, I offer this:  Just buy the complete systainer kit.

Everything except... the clamps of course. Although if my quick clamps are too far away I might still use the screw clamps.

I still have to slightly file off the pin though. It now punches the panel.  [huh]

Not to add to the confusion, but this might be nice to know about as well if you like the Schmitt system: Häfele Red Jig Variantool Lochreihenbohrlehre.

Sorry, I don't have an English language version at hand, but maybe the pictures are enough to get an idea (if you don't read German).

I found a UK site and between that and Google translate, I think I get the idea. Wish it had provisions for using a router. I think what appeals to me about the Festool system is the "slide-click" mechanism. Not that I'm going to be working to a clock, but it seems more efficient than anything that is "guide bushing into a hole" I've already got that, and may just stick with it. But the gadget-y nature of the LR-32 strikes a chord with me.

Just get it before they stuff it into that new horrible Systainer.  [wink]

There are actually two sets:
584100Hole Drilling Set  LR 32-SYS; $535 this is the one in the systainer
and
583290Hole Drilling Set  LR 32 Set; $270 this one has everything you need for lr32. It just doesn't have the systainer, clamps, or bits

I got the cheaper one because I store mine with my 1400 and don't like the screw clamps. I bought the bits as I needed them.

Elfick, you are the man! I don't know how I missed that. That's exactly what I need. I've got two pair of screw clamps and a pair of quick clamps. I've got the bits and lots of extra Systainers. This is brilliant. THANKS!

On the last ~32 cabinet units I've made, I've utilized everything except the 5mm through-hole bit.
