Wet blanket here, is there ever any doubt where the kerf will be when the saw is on the track?

I’d rather have a way to better see where the guide rail is placed. If that’s in the right place I know the kerf will be in the right place, even if all the lights go out.
Maybe this light can help with that, as long as you don’t mind lifting/sliding the saw and track together to position the track.

Here's some further information on the new dust collection bag which I think is a particularly brilliant release. Unlike my HKC 55, TSC 55 K and MT 55 saws, this bag can remain attached to the saw when it's placed back into the Systainer...it simply folds out of the way. It's also easier to empty the contents as it simply pivots upwards to open up and dump the saw dust into a refuse container. No zippers to open and no dust bags to remove...sweet.

Very sweet... I am all onboard to purchase the new TSC 55 KS EB as the lightened battery load will do wonders for the handling of the saw.

Recently, I've been cutting a lot of foam board insulation in both 1-1/2" and 2" thicknesses with my TSC 55 K, and in my head there's always been a disconnect as to why it takes a saw so heavy to cut a material that's so light in weight. The TSC 55 K is a great saw but it is heavy and awkward at times. The HKC 55 is simply terrific for framing tasks because of its mobility and light weight while the MT 55 is really the best of the best.

.....and I'm the one who gets bullied about not being impressed by lights
(I had nothing to do with this whatsoever) if it was automatically included on a new unit, it would not be a deal-breaker, but I certainly wouldn't seek it out (or pay extra for it)

I have to confess that my heart sank when I saw that light in the video. If I'm interested in this saw, it's not because of the light.

Agree, feel like that light should have been integrated in the saw itself. Feels like a bit of an afterthought this way. Also if you have a good work light on the area already, is it really needed?

What about it being compatible with older models? Would you rather have something that is exclusive to the new saw?

If they didn't try to go for compatibility with older saws they could have done a better clean sheet design and it wouldn't appear as an afterthought. If it was built into the saw, you wouldn't need to worry about charging it separately; it would just always be powered by the saw and the form factor would likely be neater and potentially less expensive. There are always compromises when you add more requirements to a design.

As a professional using Festool I appreciate their modular approach. I can profit from innovations without having to upgrade perfectly fine tools that are nowhere near their end of life. That’s the approach they’ve taken in the past and here as well. Sure, it’s a compromise. But probably one where the majority of Festool users can benefit instead of just a small number.

As a professional using Festool I appreciate their modular approach. I can profit from innovations without having to upgrade perfectly fine tools that are nowhere near their end of life. That’s the approach they’ve taken in the past and here as well. Sure, it’s a compromise. But probably one where the majority of Festool users can benefit instead of just a small number.

Ya, I agree...they "integrated" the ring light on the new 1010 router and it still needs to be removed to be charged and it's not easily removed anyways. This new TSC 55 light just simply attaches with magnets and who knows what other uses you'll find for it? A small, compact and simple package that allows for 2 light settings, 6-1/2 hours of illumination and automatic shut off, besides, if the LED light goes south, you don't have to send in the entire saw for repair.
As far as a good work light goes, for my uses, there usually isn't much room for the placement of a work light without it getting in the way of the saw and/or the guide rail. Also there's no need to constantly move the work light as this LED module is attached to the saw. No solution is perfect but I think Festool has done a good job this time to find a solution while mitigating any down-side issues.

Will that dust catcher fit older models? Is it new or a current catalog item? My saw is about 6 years old..
