New mafell plungesaw coming this fall

Roberrt,

Thanks for posting the link.  I knew that Mafell made track saws that compete against Festool, and thought they were a German or Austian company, and had not knowledge of their tools being marketed in USA.  Now I know they are a German company, they make a lot more power tools than track saws and they are available in USA.  Unfortunately the NA site lacks much detail about the Mafell product line.  I have not tried to find the German site, which likely has a lot more information.  I am somewhat familiar with the way Germans promote technology -- even at a street fair, the rides each had a prominent big letter  sign beside the operator which listed who made the machine, how large (tonnage, dimensions), horsepower, etc.)  Other than the self-powered track saw, I did not see anything of interest to me as a hobbyist.

Has anyone done a comparison test of Mafell's saw blades with those from Festool (assuming they can both be fitted to the same saws)?

Hi everybody,

I send you some more information about the new Mafell plunge saw.
I hope you will find it useful.

happy holidays

P.S.

I am really sorry. I am not able to upload the file. There are too many pictures.

If there is someone interested I will send it by e-mail

Best regards

Here is the file split into three parts

Thanks for the review and sharing it here A.G.. How does the price compare to the ts55?
From the promotional info I already guessed it didn't have a riving knife, (allthough it isn't necessary when cutting board material), it's a pity the cutline changes when changing the bevel (I believe the makita and the dewalt are similar to the ts55 in that respect).

(I saw your post earlier, but thought the attachment could be a virus, because it was a small sized compressed file, and it was your first post.)

Because I cut hardwoods I think I must stay with the Festool because of the riving knife. The Mafell is not going to work well when the hardwood start pinching because of internal stresses.

It does seem the Mafell was designed for sheet goods more than hardwoods. Some nice refinements on it though.

Well, concerning the price.
It is not cheep at all. It sells now in Europe for approximately 590 euro. This includes:

Systainer
1.6 m Mafell guide rail
2 saw blades ? 36 and 48 teeth
Parallel guide
5 years warranty

How does that compare to a Festool TS saw with a comparable set of accessories?  The warranty is considerably longer.  The Euro has come down quite a bit relative to the US dollar during 2008.

Hi Dave

I don?t know what kind of comparison you do expect me to make. I think every FOG member can calculate this for himself. It depends where you buy, but if we take the prices announced at www.Festool.de for example we can easily calculate that the TS 55 EBQ with a comparable set of accessories would cost some 640 euro + some costs for the delivery + 2 years less warranty.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer  :)

Is the difference in the cut quality caused by the saw or the blade? If the Mafell thin kerf blade is good, why not just buy that (in case it's the same size etc.).

Well, there is no doubt that it is much cheaper to buy just a saw blade than to buy a saw with the blade.

Looking for better results when cutting melamine laminated chipboard I have tested different saw blades with my TS 55 EBQ. (Bosh, Metabo, CMT and now Mafell - they all offer saw blades sized 160x20mm. Of course I have also several Festool blades).
I am quite positive, that the best results that I did achieve until now with my TS 55 EBQ cutting melamine laminated chipboard is when I used a Mafell saw blade ? ?S?geblatt-HM, 162 x 1,8 x 20 mm, Z 48, WZ?. They offer also a 56 teeth blade which I expect to give even better results, but I do not have this one yet. (S?geblatt-HM, 160 x 1,2/1,8 x 20 mm, Z 56, FZ/TZ)
So if you have trouble cutting some delicate material with your Festool TS 55 you can give the Mafell saw blade a try.

Concerning the Maffel TM 55 cc saw I personally think that it is definitely contributing to the quality of the cut with some more power and higher cutting speed 1400 W and 6250 rpm against 1200 W and 5200 rpm for the Festool TS 55
