New Mafell Sys Workbench

To me price is irrelevant.  It's either a good tool or not.  Every tool I use could be replaced with a cheaper alternative.  Mostly I wish we could have threads about tools where someone didn't feel obligated to complain about the price.

I would be curious if it could be aligned with the top of an MFT.  It might give much better support while cuttting sheet goods.

When running a business this approach is a disaster. Cost of means of production is relevant. You need good return on investment to stay afloat.

False dichotomy.

Not all of us are running businesses...

I really don’t understand why this topic is such a hot button. Who really gives a rat’s asp to how expensive this option is for the average Joe? Average Joe either purchases one of these or he doesn’t. I don’t give a rip...write it up and let me know how it performs, that’s what I’m interested in. If it works I purchase one, if not I pass.

As an aside, every evening I walk up to the local grocery store and notice the 8-10 year old Mercedes in the parking lot that cost $60-$80k and are now rusted out. I then look at my Chevy that cost $30k and is also rusted out. I make no value judgement as to the rationale on the Mercedes owners purchasing wisdom. They purchased what they wanted...that’s what matters.

So 8-10 years later, the Mercedes costing $80k are toast while the Chevrolet’s costing $30k are also toast. Who really cares, both parties will probably repurchase those very same vehicles again, so does it really matter?

I wish I had that idea which is cheap to make and can sell for very high prices people will pay.  A bow of awe to Mafel.

It's not. People are different. Some tend to rationalize their purchases even for a hobby and some don't. Nothing wrong with either.

Obviously, the cost of production influences decisions on what to purchase when you're running a business.  But I find it difficult to believe that people posting that they won't purchase because it costs too much, provides you with much information of value.  Opinions about quality of construction, ease of use, potential uses, along with firsthand experience help make buying decisions.

Reviving this thread to highlight a youtuber's brilliant DIY take on the Ruwi/Mafell sys work bench (his are hinged in the middle so that they, and the work surface, can be tucked away inside a systainer):
