I am about to pull the trigger on the LR32 system and have two OF1400 routers.  I am thinking the OF1010 router may be a better companion to the drilling system than the OF1400 because of the lighter weight.  I did try the drilling system at the AWFS last July but did so with the 1010 router.

Now, I know you guys don't have strong opinions and always hold back what your really think but, feel free to let them fly. ;D

Steve, it really doesn't make much difference to me which router I use, you'll do just fine with the LR 32 and the 1400.

Steve,

I used the 1400 with it today. Actually my 9 year old son did (with supervision of course) he is building his first large project. It's book case with adjustable shelves and a back made from half lap boards with a V cut in the center of each.

I think if he can do it you won't have any problem.

BTW, Thanks Brice for your tutorial on the LR32 system he and I read it today together to set up & use the system.

Scott if you liked my tutorial, I think you'll going to love my LR32 user's guide. My 9 to 5 has slowed down progress but I hope to have the first part (of three) done in the next week or so.

Brice,

I'll take all the help I can get  :), U da Man!

How about a guide on how to fit the 1400 & all the accessories back into the systainer, I know I never get it back in there correctly. ???

Which LR32 set are you planning to get? I see that McFeely's has two similar parts listed:

583290 - "Hole drilling set" for $178 ($195 after Apr 1st)
583310 - "Hole drilling set LR 32-Set" for $154

The latter part is listed as not available now but the price is valid as of Apr 1st.

Is there a way to use the 2200 on LR32?  I dont want to buy the smaller router.

Steve,

I bought the LR32 a couple of weeks ago and have the 1400. I used it making the Chaos wall and it worked great. But after using the 1400 all day between the LR32 and boring out the Hafele connectors, I have seen the light and will be buying the 1010 for my next closet project. The weight of the 1400 and the heavier spring on the 1400 give you arms a great workout. That being said the 1400 works great with it.

Steve, it all comes down to how many LR32 holes you expect to drill at a session and how much frustration you want to avoid.

Of course if you only own an OF1400, then that answers your question.

My experience is after 4 rows of 25 holes drilled with an OF1400 most of us over the age of 9 will appreciate the easier springs of the OF1010.

From an expense standpoint, the OF1010 is the least expensive Festool router. So if you use it as often as posible, you will extend the life of your OF1400 to infinity and beyond.

The OF2200 is a marvelous router and the one I use when I need larger bits than practical with the OF1010. Just remember, it is not possible to install an OF2200 on the LR32 guide rail plate.

Attn Festool or adept 3rd party, please make an adapter for the 2200 to work w Lr32.  You would have at least one purchaser of this and the lr32 set if you do so  [wink]

Chris,

After using both the 1010 and the 1400 with the LR32 and also handling the 2200 - you would hate the 2200 and the lr32 combo if it were possible.  Just my opinion.
