Pin Nailer

I second the Grex I have 2 and love them.  But they will not hold alone I use them alot to hold glue joints while gluing up or even into domonos to hold them from poping out if a clamp is not around or to help.

I have a Grex 23 g also. The headless pins will hold as long as the stock isn't fighting to come off. If it is pulling off, shoot multiple pins at different angle like toe nailing to improve the hold.

The Grex guns are definitely hard to beat, and do mesh oh so well with my festools. And if you want, it does fit nicely into a small systainer. I really favor the 650L model mainly because i do flooring. When i want to do an arch in a floor, the 650L does an amazing job. I glue up and bend the wood and just start firing away! This is the first pinner that has held up for my purpose and has shown unbelievable result. Up to 2" length in pins and the auto lockout feature is a must for a guy like me so I'm not shooting blanks. Grex is hard to beat.

I learned all about this when I started using the Porter+Cable nail guns.  Like a lot of people, I went with that three-gun kit that comes with the pancake-style compressor.  I like the guns, but several times in a couple of recent projects I suddenly realized I was not shooting any nails!  The problem is compounded by the fact that the gun still produces a nail hole, so it appears as if everything is moving along smoothly.  Then, of course, you have to trace back and look in each hole to figure out where you started shooting blanks, and redo those spots -- very annoying!

Auto-lockout is one of those features whose value you appreciate only after you have had some experience.  Until I actually started using a nail gun, I wouldn't have known that shooting blanks was an issue.  Now I know!

I've been taking a close look at the Grex guns recently, and will give one of them a try next time I have a project that requires nailing.
