Hi, I just received my new TS55, and have a few questions for TS55 owners.

In the fist photo, it shows the hex-shaped recess that is cast into the base plate, and it looks like it was 'peened' on the forward-most face of the hex recess and slightly deformed the adjacent bottom surface with a slight bump - about 0.02". When I sit the saw on my corian counter, it rocks back and forth, but on the rail it does not rock, as it falls into the 'recessed' area of the guide rail.
Does anyone else have this? is it normal? My ATF 55 sits perfectly flat wherever I place it.

In the second photo, it shows the gap between the blade housing and motor body, and when I apply slight pressure the gap closes up about 0.03" with an ever so slight rocking. It seems like this would compromise the perpendicularity of the blade during plunge. Has anyone noticed this? Is it normal? Again, my ATF 55 is rock solid in this regard.

I have not had the chance to cut with it yet, and if this is not normal, I'd rather not use it and get it full of sawdust if I'm going to exchange it.

Thanks for any help.

I can't comment on the 1st but as far as the gap is concerned it would have no effect on the perpendicularity of the blade during plunge as it is the arbor that would control that. The gap may have an effect on dust control.

hi pete, i have just run into the garage and checked mine, i dont have either issue with my ts-55, so i would assume these are minor defects.

if you are not happy, you are well within your rights to bring the saw back to the dealer you purchased from. i would bring it back, if it was mine.

regards, justin.

Those issues don't sound right to me either. Festool offers a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Contact the store where you purchased it and there should be no problem exchanging it for you.

Hi, thanks, but it's not the blade housing that is moving, but the motor assy on it's pivot.

Thanks for checking, guys.
I'm going to try to exchange, I really like the new features, especially the tool-free rail adjustment!

And they really got the depth adjustment right for my 44 year old eyes, I used to have to hold my ATF out at arms length.

Festool really added thoughtful improvements on this saw, although I'm a few years late to the game.

Thanks all...

Hi Pete,

I don't like that hex with the peening. But the slight "deflection" when the saw is fully extended is norrmal - (just confirmed with Festool's Repair Dept). When you plunge to make your cut, it is rock solid - no worries about blade deflection.

Anyhooo, I will send you another saw this AM via USPS Priority Mail (since UPS doesn't ship Saturday) and a  UPS Return label for your saw.

Bob,

Thank you very much, this will help me do the things I need to do this weekend, much appreciated.

It's this kind of service that makes me purchase Festool.

Also, the new rail I received has a clear plastic splinterguard. Small detail but very welcome! I like the fact that Festool is constantly improving.

Thanks again Bob.

Bob Marino came through once again...with a new saw, and the sole plate on this one is good - no bump.
This is why I order from Bob.
