Hi all.

I need to refinish an oak veneer coffee table.  I'm wondering if the Surfex kit/system would be the best option or whether I'd be better off with something else like Osmo PolyX would be better?

Thanks.

Just a little bump as I'm going to be doing this tomorrow morning and any opinions will help my decision when I get to the shop tomorrow morning to buy whatever I'm going to use.

Thanks in advance.

Surfix would not be the best choice over the existing finish. It is design to go over unfinished wood.

Thanks for the response. The current finish is a hard varnish that is sitting on the top of the veneer, so my intention was to carefully sand it back to the veneer, then use Surfix.

The finish most probably sealed the pores, it would be very difficult to get it out.

If it was solid Oak instead of veneer, you could sand it back enough to use a penetrating finish.

In this case, however, you need to use a build finish.
