Robertson Tips for Centrotec

Assuming that the price is reasonable and the quality good, I would be interested in the 2 inch bits.

Probably:

two #0 (yellow)

five #1 (green)

five  #2 (red)

two #3 (black)

price and quality of the bits themselves are what i'm curious about before i make a purchase. I'm picky.

I'm in the same camp.  If I recall, Festool USA had looked into Robertson tips production for NA thru a thrid party NA manufacturer(s), but they could not find anybody who could meet their quality level they needed to meet.  Thing is, who can gauge the kind of comparison between what quality level the Festool Centrotic bits are, and quality of the ones being offered.  It's over my head, I wouldn't even know what criteria to go by.

Wera makes square drive bits... their bits are every bit as good, if not better than Festool bits.  I call BS on the "quality" argument.  Its a centrotec thing, not a quality thing.

+1 to ghostfist. Who is the manufacturer of the bits you will be retooling and what will the pricing schedule be. Just a bit hesitant, as I have found with the various bit holders and some grk square drives, I have been able to drive all the robertson screws I use. Besides Kreg screws, it deems the only time I use a Robertson is when I'm removing a screw put in by someone else. Grk for me ;) ( dead horse)

I would sure be interested in getting these if a decent quality bit is used to start with.

Would be in for
2 - 2" #2
2 - 4" #2
2 - 6" #2

Once price point is determined, I'll decide from there!  But I have interest in two sets of #2-2", 4" & 6"

Bob

I echo the price and quality point made by others.  Once those two items are ironed out, I might be interested in taking 2 sets of #1 and #2 in 2", 4", & 6" lengths.  You will be the man if this idea becomes a reality.

Agree with the price and quality point made by others.  Once these two issues are ironed out, I would be interested in a couple of #2's  2", 4" and 6"

Darn near missed this thread - I was sure someone was beating a dead horse. [big grin]

If the price is reasonable, I would go for a few #1s and #2s, two inch long.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I will get pricing this week. I am going to look into a few different quality tips. Someone mentioned Wera, I could only find 2" robertson tips from them. If you have other suggestions, let me know.

It sounds like most people are interested in #1 and #2 tips, Frank was interested in #0 and #3. I have never used or seen a #0 head, but I can look into it. I currently have a #3 tip, but cant remember the last time I used one of them. Talking to the machinist, Doing only a few of a certain tip is no problem, so any requests like this can be taken care of.

I want to help everyone here, so I would like to hear any suggestions, recommendations, etc.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

I would be interested in #2 in 4 inch and 6 inch, at least until pocket screws start coming in T-20.

You guys in the states seem to be missing the benefit of the full Robertson line.  [poke]

Here are a couple of photos to illustrate the sizes:

By the way, in Canada, we usually refer to the screw sizes by colour, rather than by a number.

I don't know your arrangement for the turning, but I would think most of the cost would be in that. So no point in saving a small amount on the bit with low quality and paying  to have it turned.  Start with good bits.

Seth

I would be interested in2 each of the  #1 and #2 in 2", 4", and 6" if the price is right.

I would be interested in  a couple each of #1 and #2 in 2 inch and 4 inch and 1 each of 6 inch

Hmmm...  The only tool in my goodie box that uses square drive screws is the Kreg Pocket Hole arrangement.  Otherwise, I prefer GRK screws which are Torx drive.  Frankly, I'd rather see Kreg migrate to the more universally available (at least in the US) Torx pattern screws.

[smile]

I prefer GRKs as well. There are just some specific screws, mainly deck screws that I don't have an option of the GRKs. Also, when I need a box of screws to finish a job, GRKs are hard to locate in my area. Every yard carries an assortment of robertson screws tho.
