Router bit insert

Hey guys does anyone know if you can buy the foam router insert I looked on ekat but couldn't find it. My sys 1 router storage is full and I have quite a few bits that are too tall and won't fit even if there was room. I would like to buy a combi 2 for bit storage in the top and use the drawer for guide bushings, extra bearings and related accessories but I need the insert for the bits. I thought about buying another router sys just for the insert but I have no need for a sys 1 and kinda hate to spend $91 just for a foam insert.

Its not quite the right size though, but you could cut and combine.

I don't know if you can find the insert alone but if not, I would try using a router and maybe a peg board template on Fastcap Kaizen Foam.
I ran into the same problem you're having I moved on but I need to do something myself.

Thanks guys the ones on Amazon look to be the same material as Festools insert a couple of them cut to size just might be the ticket.

I just made a router storage using one of those that [member=15585]Svar[/member] suggested. I had to trim it to fit the systainer and it left a gap at one side. The gap is handy for some bits and pieces and I definitely recommend a sys 2 as some of my cutters are too long to fit in a sys 1. It dosn't take any 8 mm shanks and I'm thinking of converting the offcut (which is all 1/4") to 8 mm.

It's not what the OP is asking for, but I remember reading posts about folks drilling new holes at an angle for longer bits, i.e. with the angled insertion there's more headroom for longer bits.

The router bit insert is available separately, but it's fairly costly as far as inserts go.  Let me know if you need the part number and I can try to find it for you.

The foam for the T-Loc is 700866 but it's very expensive and you'll find it's far more cost effective to buy the SYS-OF and offload the SYS 1 to someone if you don't have a use for it yourself.

Or just get a sheet of suitable foam and cut the insert yourself & drill the shank holes with your drill @ 8 or 12 mm.

You get the best cut from an electric meat carving knife with double blades if you don't have access to the specialised foam cutting jigsaws

Festool has a blade for the Carvex to cut foam with.

Agree on making your own.  Grab a piece of foam from an upholstery shop and use brass tubing from a hardware store or hobby shop (K&S Metals) in either 1/4 or 1/2".  Sharpen the end with a file or piece of paper and you can easily 'plug cut' the foam and do a great job.

Inexpensive and you can make the hole spacing and mix of small or large to meet your bit assortment.
