Seneca 500 adapter for the XL

After literally pulling my hair out as to which domino to get I went for the XL. I had read you could get smaller cutters for the XL and found this online today.

I thinks it would be a great aid to have. Worked out at about £56 with shipping but will probably have to pay tax too. I thinks its worth the money.... [smile]

I do a lot of work with 18mm sheet material so it should come in very handy.

As far as centering and shims go, I think I will have a go making my own.......but will it save me getting the 500 later on? Will be interesting to see how I get on with this novel adaptor.

My mate bought the domino 700 under my recommendation because he used my domino 500 and wanted one.

I told him he's better off with the 700 because I know what sort of work he does most often so the 700 would be more useful for him.    I did tell him he should buy both because he's like me we do a variety of work but he can't afford both. 

I had seen on FOG a while ago about this adapter coming but no one having used one yet so be interesting what you think off it.      Ill tell my mate to get one if its any good.  So he can use his domino for those smaller jobs.

I've got a 700 and a 500, but I think there could be a good reason sometimes to use the small cutters in the big machine on some occasions ... work with me here, I'm trying to find an excuse to buy the adaptor [embarassed]

Your not the only one! I have both and I even thought of buying the adapter my self trying to give my self reasons why I should buy the adapter!

One reason I did think of was when your doing your domino holes and one hole needed to be off set lower from the face for some reason you can have one domino machine set up for one and the other set for another. 

But saying that I normally do all my domino holes then adjust the domino and do the others so its not really a good reason!

I have to admit I have not owned or used a domino 500 or XL for any lenght of time.
When I have done my sheet work it was always with a Dewalt biscuit jointer which is on its last legs.. Although the biscuit jointer is great I think the Domino 500 is much more versatile. I do exterior carpentry/joinery hence I bought the XL.

I did think that I would purchase a 500 later when funds allowed but I will give this adaptor a good run first and see how I get on. I beleive you cant use the 4mm cutter with this adaptor but I cant really see when I personally would need to use a 4mm domino in the realm of work I do. I am sure others would feel different.

So for me at the moment I would rather spend my funds on a long awaited Leigh jig rather than a 500.

I got the 4mm cutter only used it once and I could of done the job it with out it I just used it because I had it.

I bought a Leigh jig.  Still brand new never used. I'm hoping it will come into use when I have my workshop.

The 4mm cutter works fine with the adapter however to center the mortise on ~1/2" stock you do need to either make yourself a shim for the 700 or use our Domi-Shims.
Having said that, using the 700 for 4mm mortises is a little like driving a tandem dump truck as your work car.  [smile]

Ron and Ryan sent me more Seneca goodies including the adapter and some prototypes of future products.  I posted a review yesterday.  While I talked about the 4mm bit and how it is different on the 500, I never discussed its use on the 700 for the aforementioned tandem dumptruck reason   Great image, btw.

[unsure] well my tools are becoming a little more expensive and more thought needs to go into deciding the best place for my money to go.

So for now my spending has come to a halt.
