setting up central dust vac in garage

Hi everyone !
I have a CT 26 E unit that i'm going to use for my dust collection plus i have a dust deputy for the front end filtering.  I have heard so many people say how difficult it is to buy fittings for various setups.  Can someone please tell me if they also have the same two units and what piping, and or tubing and fittings they used that worked well together?

Hi Bryan

I had the original cheap and cheerful Dust Deputy and used it with my CT26 for a couple of years. I then upgraded to the Ultimate Dust Deputy provided by Toolovation here in the UK.

I do not remember any problems connecting things up for the basic DD and the UDD comes with the right size hose.

For a static setup in a workshop I would recommend setting up something similar to my Dust Hub which is described here:


I got the bits from Axminster here in the UK but I am sure that same will be available wherever you are. I have the CT26 in a fixed position and have a dedicated Kapex port and two other ports in different parts of the workshop. The key thing is to use the blast gates to get the full potential of the CT for each port and get into a habit of using the power switches and blast gates together so that tools only run when they have the CT through connected.

I have a Dustmite and a CTL midi and have no issues. Although I normally use a £50 Karcher wet and dry vac with the dustmite and leave that in place and use the midi when I'm out and about.

I also did similar to Peter and made a "Dust Centre / Hub"

Originally I used one of the RV energy saving units to power on the vac when a tool was used. It worked perfectly for 6 months and then stopped. I now just use a remote control. Simply raise the blast gate for the tool you want to use and away you go. All of my blast gates are labelled so I know which one to use.

If hooking up a vac with small diameter tubing, you my find you have to keep things to a minimum like elbows, Ts, etc. They are really designed for that type of arrangement, if runs are short and minimal it likely will be fine. I wound up installing a real DC system in my shop as the vac was one (too loud), couldn't support the load and design.
