Sortainers to store Drill bits

I would like opinions on what sortainer works best to store drill bit stuff.
The catch is I have drill index box 1/16" to 1/2". Right now my bits are all over a friends shop and in my trailer (which did me no good today).

I have a feeling that once I get into the sortainers they are going to be like narcodics...

HI,

I would think that if you plan to put the bits in loose the 12 drawer would be the way to go. If you want to put index or other set boxes in the drawers  then you will probably need wider or deeper drawer types. There is a thread on here http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=127.0    that has the interior drawer measurements in it. That combined with figuring out exactly what you plan to store should give you the answer.

Glad I could help.    The 11" front to back makes it so some pretty good size stuff can go in them including extra long bits.  If you do a search for sortainers you will find some pics that show how people have used the drawers. You can get a surprising amount in the large drawer. It is almost as big as a Systainer - I.

I have a drill index box like you describe that I keep in the bottom drawer of a 4-drawer Sortainer.  I used the included dividers to partition that bottom drawer into three compartments and keep measuring tools (Incra gauge, Lufkin folding rule, Incra T-square and corner rule with 0.5 mm pencil holes, dial caliper, Fastcap tape, etc.).  I keep some Forstner bits in the upper level smaller drawers.

Yes, the Sortainers are addictive, too.  But if they keep you from wasting time trying to find those little parts and fasteners, they soon pay for themselves.

Should we worry about those drill bits hitting each other in a drawer?

Will that make them dull?

Although I have several Sortainers I like an index to "size" my bits particularly since as I have gotten older the fine not so well etched print is hard to read.

I use three MiniSystainers for my bits that I carry to a job; a Protool forstner set bought off eBay, a Festool Euro drill bit set bought off eBay before the limited edition large Systainer set was available here in the USA, and a mini holding my SAE index set, the Festool Wood drill set & some counter sinks.

I have two complaints on the Mini's... 1) they are just that "mini".  Thus are restrictive on what will fit inside them & the amount they will hold.  And they do not attach to my Fetool drill Systainers for ease of moving to a project.  So the two things I'd like to see is a deeper Mini available, and a means of attaching to the larger Systainers for transport.

Jim,

There is a Mini Sys II, which is 90mm high instead of 70mm.

As for attaching the minis to larger systainers, it is (kind of) possible - the minis are sized so that 5 Mini I's will fit perfectly into a Sys3. Kofferfunshop offer these as a set..

Kofferfunshop will ship to NA, so you're OK there (as long as you have a fat wallet!).

Jonny

"Thank You" for the info.

Nice to know that they will nest in a #3.  I will check this out.  Unfortunately the 90 mm is another NIANA product...  It would also be nice to have the dividers available for the Mini's on this side of the pond.

Thanks again, jim

Fat Wallet aside, have you ever ordered from them or do you just tease us with the knowledge that they exist? Though that could be made up with Festool equipment.

BTW now I know why my German friend was mad that he could not find the "movable" toolboxes and found NA stuff junk.

I haven't personally ordered from them, as my wallet isn't fat enough... :(

But I do know that they will ship to both the UK and US (USD82.59 per 20kg to the US!!!).

I noticed that... maybe in few years when I have all the Festool's I would need and my daughter has gone through university, and I've paid off my house, truck and car, my dogs are all well, etc...

ive use the systainers middle size drawer divided into 3  one for spade, one for wood and one for the concrete and metal.  works fine.  however, I also have a drill bit templite in the drawer to see what size the bit is since I also cant read the little print.
