Spice Rack Cover

I'm building cabinets for our kitchen. Finally getting to the rewarding part of hanging doors and attaching drawer fronts. Anyway, I originally planned to have a vertical spice rack pullout in a base cabinet with a slab front. The slab was complete and top-coated. It looked a little plain so I cut it into four on the BS so as not to loose too much length. Then I had to router the decorative edge and re-finish then (a little tricky). This face will get fastened to the end of the pullout but I still wanted it flat and strong so I sunk two Domino tenons in the end of the mating surfaces. My wife loves it!

I am going to put a pull out rack in the cabinet next to our stove. I thinking I will use some hardware from Hafele, but I am not sure.
Are you making the rack or buying it? What are you gonna use for hardware?

Thanks. I used satin EM6000 from Target. I used one coat of their amber Ultraseal (shellac) to pop the grain. The wood is European steamed beech. I will probably make the rack but haven't figured it all out yet. Boy all these pullouts, drawer dividers, pantry cabinet shelves, lazy susans...are going to take me a year to finish.

Nice. What spray equipment do you use?
I like Ultraseal as well, warms up the EM6000 which can look blueish.

The wood is European steamed beech.

Beautiful wood. Beech is one of my favorites.

I will probably make the rack but haven't figured it all out yet. Boy all these pullouts, drawer dividers, pantry cabinet shelves, lazy susans...are going to take me a year to finish.

Yup, just when you think you are done with the details and are ready to start swinging the big stuff, more details pop up.

I use a Fuji Q4 system. I struggled with my spray system and the top coat until I took on this big project. One big key I found was to control the temperature (viscosity) of the finish. For my set up I had best control & results with the finish at 75 deg. F.

I like it - provides much more visual interest than just a plain slab door would. I too will be rebuilding a spice rack / cookie sheet storage pull out in the narrow 8" cabinet space next to our stove. I'll be building a raised panel cope and stick door that matches our existing cabinets. It's one of my next projects after the holidays. Thanks for the inspiration.

Really nice, Mike, but, those different style drawer faces don't appeal to me.  Couldn't you just pick one?  Individually they all look good, but when grouped, I can't understand it.

I really like the look of having four drawers with the full rack behind it - thanks for sharing.  On my spice cabinet, I used standard drawer slides, one of the bottom and another on the side.  I provides nice stability with less cost of some of the purchased racks.

Ha, they appealed to the one that counts  [wink]. My wife found this idea in a cabinet design book and since then I see it used often. The top drawer isn't tall enough to be a 5-piece you make it a slab.
